From Whistler Blackcomb:
World-renowned environmental activist and lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will deliver the keynote address in Whistler at the 20-year anniversary celebration for the Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE).
Kennedy, named one of Time Magazine’s Heroes for the Planet,
will discuss the role that natural resources play in work, health and identity.A passionate speaker, Kennedy has earned a reputation as a defender of the environment. He serves as Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and President of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic and is co-host of Ring of Fire on Air America Radio.
For members of AWARE and for the community of Whistler, Kennedy’s passion and commitment to the environment made him a natural choice as the keynote speaker for this event.
“His appearance adds a massive amount of legitimacy to the cause that we’ve been fighting for over the past 20 years,” said AWARE board director and event organizer Brad Kasselman. “Whistler as a community has been a leader in identifying and carrying out the steps required on the journey to a sustainable future.”
Kennedy's published books include the New York Times’ bestseller Crimes Against Nature (2004), St. Francis of Assisi: A Life of Joy (2005), The Riverkeepers (1997), and Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr: A Biography (1977). In addition, Kennedy’s articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Atlantic Monthly, Esquire, the Nation, Outside Magazine and the Village Voice.
Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University and has studied at the London School of Economics, the University of Virginia and Pace University School of Law. He holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Law.
