Arts reporter and critic Rosemary Ponnekanti keeps you in touch with the arts and culture scene with the help of other News Tribune writers, critics and editors.
Rosemary Ponnekanti is the arts reporter at The News Tribune, and has been a classical music nerd nearly all her life. Besides spending way too much time in galleries, museums and concert halls, she occasionally brings a whistle or double bass to Celtic jam sessions, and insists on singing "Happy Birthday" in four-part harmony.

Ever had a hankering to have your art displayed big as a billboard for all the world to see? Here's your opportunity.
You can help paint a 180 foot mural of a winter scene inside an historic building at the Foss Waterway Seaport where the first ever Tacoma Winterfest will be held Dec. 13 and 14.
According to the folks at the Seaport: "The event will feature unique gifts and delicious foods sold by local businesses, complimented by live entertainment, a fashion show and many wonderful kids’ activities to top the bill."
Mural organizer Angela Jossy sent us the details:
You can decide what to paint based on your own muse. You can even sign your work. For example Desiree Flerchinger is planning to paint a snow faerie. Houston Wimberly III plans to paint a snow man. Linda Lapping is going to paint one or more penguins. Use your imagination. For example you could paint a range of evergreen trees, a gingerbread house, a stack of Christmas presents, a polar bear, a cozy little cabin with smoke coming out of the chimney, a family of bunnies snuggled up in the snow or you could just use make a stencil and use it to paint snow flakes.
While the mural is being painted, others will be sorting through donated decorations, putting up lights, making holiday displays and things along those lines. You could do either or both. We're working on getting some food and drinks for everyone. Some people are coming at noon, others will arrive at 4 pm We should all be cleared out around 8 pm.
Things you should know:
* We have paint but we could always use more. Bring it if you've got it.
* Bring your own brushes.
* We have Christmas decorations but we could always use
more. Bring it.
* The Foss Waterway Seaport address is 705 Dock Street.
