Fife police have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of robbing a motel and pistol whipping two clerks.

A warrant had been issued for Jude Martin Linarez’s arrest after prosecutors charged him Jan. 15 with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of first-degree robbery.

Linarez was arrested Thursday at an apartment complex in Lakewood and booked into Pierce County Jail on the charges, Fife police reported.

Charging documents give the following account.

Linarez entered the Econolodge Motel, 3100 Pacific Highway E., about 3:15 a.m. Jan. 12. He approached two desk clerks and pointed a gun at them, police reported.

The robber ordered the women into a side office, assaulted them and demanded money.

One of the clerks started to run away and Linarez fired his gun three times in her directions. The bullets struck the ceiling and floor.

One of the victims knew Linarez and identified him as the robber. His photo also was picked out from a montage.

Fife detectives, along with Lakewood police investigators, took Linarez custody without incident Thursday.
