LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A tow truck reported stolen in Lakewood Saturday was later found in Medina, according to a spokesperson for Gene's Towing.
The theft happened just after 9 a.m., when a driver for Gene's, located at 9212 So. Tacoma Way, was helping a customer release their impounded vehicle.
While the driver was in an office getting paperwork, the customer came in and said someone had jumped in his tow truck and driven away.
The vehicle was described as a red International 4700, license plate number A51762Y. A reward was offered in the theft.
Towtruck STOLEN!!! UPDATED Found....
REWARD OFFERED FOR STOLEN TOW TRUCK!!!
At approximately 9:00AM this morning one of our drivers was releasing a vehicle from impound and went into the office to get some paperwork. The customer followed in after him and said "hey someone just jumped in your truck and drove off".......... And down the road it went. It has been reported to all local authorities and they are searching for it also.
The truck is a Int'l 4700 Oberg Twin Boom Wrecker & Century F-II under-lift with a Seattle style bed (one of a kind)
We just want it back before someone causes any problems.
FOUND...... At about 13:35 this afternoon we recieved a call from Medina P.D. a small Law Enforcement agency west of Bellevue, WA. saying that they had recovered our stolen Towtruck....... We asked if it was driveable and they said yes, so we told them we would be right up after it.. When we got to the location we see that the truck is parked across from the Police Station??? Wondering how or who might have drove it there? We read the note taped to the drivers window telling us to contact the officer downstairs across the street ( PD office). Once across the street we meet Officer King and introduce ourselves and ask where or did you find our truck? He said another Officer was coming down the road to Police Head Quarters and was pulling into his parking spot when he notice "some idiot in a towtruck trying to go down the walking path toward the water". He approached the driver who had a 40 ouncer in one hand trying to manuver in the tight area. He asked him what he was doing and he said he was picking up a boat? After that he was asked to get out of the vehicle and then met some sort of resistance and tried to run. After being TAZZED he was finally under control and arrested!!!
Amazing how the timing worked out for us. And the effort Officer Mike Girias put forward along with Officer Matt King. We just now got back and here are some pics of the location it was recovered.
We would like to thank all the agencies that were involved with helping find our Truck.
You know this is almost like one of the Stupid Criminal Stories......
