thanks Jon my first time on the beaches and it was to learn and learn we did. We also had a good day saw some new [to us] places and caught a few fish. That's a good start and now we know that we can fish when ever we're ready and wanting to. We've just seen a few of the many places available and close to home so we'll be there sooner or later but don't wait for us. Bob

The last pic is a great fish. I've gone to places around the Sound and used my float tube to fish Cutts. Also I've rowed my driftboat to some of my secert spots for Cutt's. Largest to date approx 4.5 lbs. And if you're wooried about currents they make a little collaseable danforth style anchor just for float tubes. Works pretty good and keeps you in place to a point. As with any anchor it works better when you play out quite a bit of line to decrease the the angle to as flat as possible.

Jon - I've been waiting for another class for 4 months now and of course when it finally comes around it's the weekend of the ND/UW football game and I am going to have about 6 guests in town. Also, any chance I could pick your brain via email with a few "chum in the salt" questions since I won't be able to do so at the class? - BJ

I can remember standing on the bridge in your picture, (I think it was in 1986). The occasion was the scattering of Gene Armstrong's ashes. Gene was the inspiration for the bridge because of his dedication to Rocky Ford and his tireless efforts to get it the way it is now. I expect the dedication plaque has long disappeared.

As his ashes settled to the bottom, trout who were scattered by the commotion, returned to hover over his ashes, a fitting tribute.

Jon,

Two rod thoughts for you......

1) Z-Axis 11 footers -- amazing rods, my 5 weight is the best roll casting rod I've ever had, which comes in handy for indicator fishing among other things. It is very easy to overhead cast as well.

2) CND Steelhead Specialist spey rods -- they're not the lightest, they're not the prettiest, all they do is flat-out cast. If you haven't tried one, you need to.

Happy Holidays,
John

Good job Jon,

We fished the Yak last week and had the same type scenery. Chris hooked up on 3 bows and got 2 to hand using egg patterns. What a great way to break up the trip to Spokane!

I'm hoping Santa will bring me an 8wt, I'm set on a Z Axis and wondering what you like for reels. I have a cigar with your name on it if you answer wisely!

Hi Karl,

There's actually a small chum run that moves through the area you're visiting.

If you're looking to target some smaller fish like SRCs and rezzies, head over to Narrows Park, the beach there should be holding little coho right now.

Another recommendation is Purdy--the folks you're visiting can give you easy directions to that place.

If you're willing to drive a little further, though, grab your 8 weight and head to Chico Creek, it's a about a 1/2 hour drive or so, but worth it if you're looking for big tugs.

You can e-mail me at ohimo@hotmail if you have any specific questions.

Good luck!
