Things are firming up for the 2008 BMW Northwest Skins game, and its host, Puyallup's Ryan Moore.
Ben Crane, a Portland native and University of Oregon product, will be the new addition to the second installment of the skins game, which takes place Sept. 12-13 at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway.
Crane will join Moore, defending event champion Aaron Baddeley, of Australia, and long-hitting Bubba Watson, of Florida in the two-day event, with all proceeds going to local charities.
Jeremy Moore, one of the co-organizers from Moore Management Group, said adding another Northwest golfer was important.
"This event is really aimed at Northwest charities, so to add another fellow Northwest-erner … makes it better than getting somebody in from across the country," Jeremy Moore said. "Plus, Ben was excited to help Northwest charities."
Crane, who now lives in Dallas, missed much of last season with recurring back injuries. He has rebounded nicely in 2008, making 13 of 14 cuts, including a tied-for-sixth at The Players Championship and a fifth-place finish at the Colonial in May.
The 2005 season was Crane's best on the PGA Tour. He captured the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, Wis. for the second on his two tour victories. He made almost $2.5 million in earnings that year.
This week: PGA Tour's AT&T National, Thursday through Sunday, Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, Md.
World ranking: 83rd.
2008 earnings: $1,107,895 (51st on PGA Tour).
Last tournament: The up-and-down, head-scratching season for the Puyallup product continues. When he feels good, he usually plays pretty well (three top-10 finishes). But it has been hit or miss. After nearly a three-week layoff, Moore missed the cut at the Travelers Championship late last month, then withdrew from last week's Buick Open because of fatigue. He tried qualifying for the British Open on Monday, but missed out in Detroit. Moore's debut in "Tiger's tournament" last year was solid, finishing tied for 25th at the AT&T National.
Tee time Thursday: 9:12 a.m. PDT off the first tee with Mathias Gronberg and Patrick Sheehan.
