This week: Nationwide Tour's Oregon Classic, Thursday through Sunday, Shadow Hills Country Club, Junction City, Ore.

Second-round score: 1-under-par 71.

Position: Putnam (4-under 140) is tied for 33rd, seven strokes behind leader Bubba Dickerson (133).

Recap: Sometimes the gambles are worth it. Other times, they're not. The Tacoma native finally got something going Friday with a birdie on the par-4 sixth to move to 2-under on his round, and near the top 20. He was licking his chops taking the tee on the par-5 ninth – a hole he made birdie on in the first round. But Putnam's second shot found a right-side water hazard, and he ended up making a bogey. The Life Christian Academy graduate was a little off his ball-striking pace of Thursday, hitting just 11 of 18 greens in regulation.

Tee time Saturday: 9:54 a.m. PDT with Matt Every.
