PGA TOUR's Texas Open

Site: San Antonio.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: LaCantera Golf Club, Resort Course (6,881 yards, par 70).

Purse: $4.5 million. Winner’s share: $810,000.

Television (all times PDT): Golf Channel (Thursday, 1-4 p.m., 7-10 p.m.; Friday-Sunday, 3-5 a.m., 1-4 p.m., 7-10 p.m.; Monday, 3-5 a.m.).

Last year: Justin Leonard won the event for the third time to match Arnold Palmer’s record, beating Jesper Parnevik with a 10-foot birdie putt on the third hole of a playoff. The Texan also won in 2000 and 2001.

Last week: Rookie Dustin Johnson won the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, N.Y., for his first PGA Tour title, holing an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over Robert Allenby. Puyallup's Ryan Moore played after a month-long layoff, and placed 25th.

Notes: The tournament, played in San Antonio since 1922, is the third of seven Fall Series events. Beginning next year, the event will be played in May. … Tommy Armour III broke the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record in 2003, finishing at 26-under 254. He shot 64-62-63-66. … Mike Souchak won the 1955 event at Brackenridge Park at 27-under 257. Souchak died in July. He was 81. … Bart Bryant won the 2004 tournament for his first PGA Tour title, shooting a course-record 60 in the third round. … The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is next week in Las Vegas, followed by the Frys.com Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.
