This week: Nationwide Tour's WNB Golf Classic, Thursday through Sunday, Midland Country Club, Midland Texas.

Second-round score: 5-under-par 67.

Position: Putnam (7-under 137) is tied for fifth, four strokes behind Marc Leishman (133)

Recap: Not often in a round where seven birdies are made is a "real good bogey" the talk of the round. That is what the Tacoma native did Friday. He hit into a water hazard on the par-4 10th, but got up-and-down from 80 yards for a bogey. After that, Putnam made four birdies over the next five holes to move into contention. He birdied all the par-5 holes Friday (longest putt was 12 feet), and is 7-under on them through two rounds. "The par-5s are tough. I only went for one of them today (in two shots). It wasn't like I was making easy birdies," he said.

Tee time Saturday: 7:45 a.m. PDT with Michael Boyd and Spencer Levin.
