They were slowed down after a day by the amateur golfers at the 60th Hudson Cup, but at crunch time, the best club professionals in the Northwest would not be stopped.

Led by Lakewood's Chris Griffin (assistant pro at Tacoma Country and Golf Club) and Sumner's Brian Thornton (pro at Meridian Valley), the pros won six of the 10 singles' matches Friday, and kept the trophy in its grasp for a 28th consecutive year.

Griffin, the Lakes High product, arguably had the toughest matchup for a pro, and took down Clarkston's Joel Dahmen, 1-up, at The Members Course at Aldarra in Fall City.

Thornton dispatched of Jim Dunlap, 5-and-3.

Other winners among professionals included Adrian Burtner, Ryan Gibbons, Ryan Malby (named event's best performer) and Scott Erdmann.
