Tom Watson, 17th on the money list, is sidelined following hip replacement surgery. … Thorpe failed to qualify. Last week: Helen Alfredsson won the Grand China Air for her second LPGA Tour victory of the year, finishing with a 7-under 65 for a three-stroke victory over Yani Tseng. The 43-year-old Swede also won the Evian Masters in France in July.
