PGA TOUR's Children’s Miracle Network Classic

Site: Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Courses: Walt Disney Resort, Magnolia Course (7,516 yards, par 72) and Palm Course (7,010 yards, par 72).

Purse: $4.6 million. Winner’s share: $828,000.

Television (all times PST: Golf Channel (Thursday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 4-7 p.m.; Friday-Sunday, 3-5 a.m., 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 4-7 p.m.; Monday, 3-5 a.m.).

Last year: Stephen Ames won his third career PGA Tour title, finishing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over Tim Clark.

Last week: Ryan Palmer won the Ginn sur Mer Classic, overcoming a penalty and a double bogey in the final round for a one-stroke victory over George McNeill, Nicholas Thompson, Vaughn Taylor, Ken Duke and Michael Letzig. Palmer earned $828,000 for his second career victory to jump from 143rd to 73rd on the money list.

Notes: The tournament completes the seven-event Fall Series. The top 125 on the money list will earn full 2009 exemptions. The next 25 will receive conditional status. Michael Allen is 123rd with $847,863, followed by Shane Bertsch ($841,248), Jeff Overton ($840,809), Martin Laird ($803,072), Charles Warren ($800,694), David Toms ($799,114) and Patrick Sheehan ($795,329). … Erik Compton, returning from a second heart transplant, accepted a sponsor exemption to make his first PGA Tour start in three years. The 28-year-old Compton recently advanced to the second stage of qualifying school, five months after surgery. … Boo Weekley is making his first start since the Ryder Cup. U.S. Ryder Cup teammates Stewart Cink, J.B. Holmes and Justin Leonard also are in the field. … Puyallup's Ryan Moore is scheduled to make his final appearance in 2008. This is the tournament he officially clinched enough money to earn his PGA Tour card after graduating from UNLV in 2005. … Tiger Woods won the 1996 and 1999 tournaments. … The final two rounds will be played on the Magnolia Course.

NATIONWIDE TOUR Championship

Site: McKinney, Texas.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: TPC Craig Ranch (7,438 yards, par 71).

Purse: $1 million. Winner’s share: $180,000.

Television (all times PST: Golf Channel (Thursday-Sunday, 1-3:30 p.m., 7:30-10 p.m.).

Last year: Wales’ Richard Johnson won the season-ending event in Lakeside, Calif., to top the 25 qualifiers for the 2008 PGA Tour. Johnson earned $139,500 for his second victory of the year to jump from sixth to first on the money list with $445,421. Michael Letzig finished second, a stroke back.

Last event: D.A. Points won the Miccosukee Championship in Miami on Oct. 26, holing a full wedge for eagle on the 72nd hole, then beating Matt Bettencourt with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.

Notes: The top 25 on the money list will earn 2009 PGA Tour cards. Brendon de Jonge tops the list with $415,835, followed by Jarrod Lyle ($375,938), Bill Lunde ($330,646). Brendon de Jonge needs to make $79,175 to break the tour season record of $495,009 set by Troy Matteson in 2005. The money champion will earn full exempt PGA Tour status, the equivalent of finishing in the top 125 on the top circuit’s money list. He also will get a spot in The Players Championship. … In the race for spots in the top 25, Ricky Barnes ($213,902) is 22nd, followed by Marc Leishman ($211,974), Scott Gutschewski ($210,215), Chris Tidland ($199,130), Hunter Haas ($198,661), David Branshaw ($194,120), Ryan Hietala ($193,476), Roger Tambellini ($191,002) and Bubba Dickerson ($186,384). … Tacoma's Michael Putnam needs a win or runner-up finish to earn enough money to get into the top 25. He is currently 49th. … No. 57 Tee McCabe is sidelined by a wrist injury, reducing the field to 59. … Tom Weiskopf designed the TPC Craig Ranch. … In 2009-11, the event will be played at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C.

CHINA GOLF ASSOCIATION's HSBC Champions

Site: Shanghai, China.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Sheshan International Golf Club (7,199 yards, par 72).

Purse: $5 million. Winner’s share: $833,300.

Television: Golf Channel (Wednesday, 8 p.m.-midnight; Thursday, 6:30-9:30 a.m.; Friday-Sunday, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., 6:30-9:30 a.m.).

Last year: Phil Mickelson blew a three-shot lead with seven holes to play, then beat Englishmen Ross Fisher and Lee Westwood with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Fisher made a double-bogey 7 on the 72nd hole.

Last week: Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen won the European tour’s season-ending Volvo Masters at Valderrama, and Robert Karlsson became the first Swede to win the Order of Merit as the money champion. … South African star Retief Goosen won the Asian Tour’s Iskandar Johor Open for his first victory in 21 months.

Notes: Mickelson is in the field along with Karlsson, Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia, Camilo Villegas, Anthony Kim, Trevor Immelman, K.J. Choi, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Darren Clarke and 17-year-old South Korean player Noh Seung-yul. … Invitations were extended to European, Asian, Australasian and Sunshine tour winners and the top 50 in the world ranking on Oct. 13. … Noh won the Midea China Classic last month for his first Asian Tour victory. He has advanced to the second stage of PGA Tour qualifying. … The first event on the European tour’s “2009” schedule, the tournament kicks off the Race to Dubai — the new points race culminating in $20 million in prize and bonus money next November at the 60-player Dubai World Championship. … Mickelson and Harrington will be in Singapore next week for an Asian Tour event.

LPGA TOUR/JAPAN LPGA TOUR's Mizuno Classic

Site: Shima, Japan.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: Kinetsu Kashikojima Country Club (6,506 yards, par 72).

Purse: $1.4 million. Winner’s share: $210,000.

Television: None.

Last year: Momoko Ueda became the first Japanese player to win the event in nine years, beating Reilley Rankin and Maria Hjorth by two strokes. Ueda had a double eagle in her final-round 66, holing a 3-wood shot from 288 yards on No. 7.

Last week: American Candie Kung won the LPGA Kolon Championship in South Korea, holding off Australia’s Katherine Hull by a stroke.

Notes: Annika Sorenstam is skipping the tournament. The Swede, leaving the tour at the end of the season, swept the 2001-05 titles to become the first LPGA Tour player to win an event five consecutive times. She also matched the tour record for victories in an event that she shares with Mickey Wright. Sorenstam won in 2001 at Musashigaoka, then took the next four at Seta. On Sunday in China, she won the Ladies European Tour’s Suzhou Taihu, beating Ye Liying in a playoff. … Morgan Pressel and 2006 winner Karrie Webb are in the 78-player field. … Women’s British Open champion Ji Yai Shin and Japan LPGA money leader Ji-Hee Lee top the 35 Japanese tour qualifiers. … Japan’s Ai Miyazato is 45th on the LPGA Tour money list with $406,592, one spot ahead of Ueda ($406,007). … The tour will be in Mexico next week for the inaugural Lorena Ochoa Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club.
