Reactions to Ryan Moore's golf-round apparel, especially from late last season and the early stages of 2009, have been plentiful.

Some of you consider it outrageous.

Others say it is stylish and different, and fits Moore to a "T".

Here is the lowdown. I spoke with his older brother, Jeremy, who also happens to be one of the men in charge at Moore Sports Management, which controls the Puyallup golfer's on- and off-the-course activities.

Since Moore joined the PGA Tour full-time in 2006, he's always had an alternative look. That is one of the reasons Oakley pursued him, and had him under contract until last season.

No longer under contract, Moore is experimenting with different combinations and, confirmed by his brother, he is in the middle of negotiations with a few apparel companies for a longer-term deal.

(Hint: One company might be the one whose brand of shoes Moore has adopted – Puma.).

[More:]

In terms of his recent look – the cardigan sweater, the button-up shirt and skinny tie – Jeremy Moore said the former UNLV All-American is going for a "modern take" on Bobby Jones' classic style from the 1920s. Back then, golfers did dress up more formally than today's stars.

On Friday in the second round of the FBR Open – one he shot a 4-under-par 68 and moved up high on the leaderboard – he was a little more conventional, by his standards. He wore his usual train-conductor's hat, only it was brown and shaggy, followed by a yellow polo shirt and Puma shoes.

Apparently, Moore is having a blast with the attention, too. He occasionally gives updates on an apparel change on his personal blog. He also spoke to the Phoenix-area media about some of his decision, too.

"I get a little bit of grief, definitely, but that ties back in to me wanting to be me and not having to wear this or that, but wear stuff I actually enjoy," Moore said. "I go out and buy my golf clothes. I bought these golf shoes. I paid for them. I figure that I've got a lot from the golf industry, so it doesn't hurt to give back."

Am I surprised by any of this, knowing Moore since he was a teenager at Cascade Christian? Outside the initial shock of seeing him in some of these ensembles, no – this 20-something is his own man, and has his own flair.
