This week: Nationwide Tour's Moonah Classic, Thursday through Sunday, Moonah Links, Fingal, Victoria, Australia.

Third-round score: 4-over-par 76.

Fourth-round score: 1-under 71.

Position: Putnam (even-par 288) will finish in the top 40, and cash his first paycheck in 2009.

Recap: The Tacoma golfer certainly made strides, but still has a few kinks to work out. His 13 birdies were matched by 13 bogeys. His two eagles were matched by a pair of double bogeys. The fourth round was easily his best ball-striking round of the season (hit 13 of 14 fairways, and 15 of 18 greens in regulation) on a course that has played difficult.

Next: HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship starting Thursday at Clearwater Golf Cllub in Harewood, Christchurch, New Zealand. He will play tournaments on back-to-back weeks in that country before returning to the continental schedule.
