Puyallup's Ryan Moore is a PGA Tour winner at last.

Perhaps overdue after sweeping aside amateur golf in the summer of 2004 by winning every major tournament, Moore survived a three-man, three-hole playoff Sunday to win the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

He rolled in a 9-foot birdie putt on the 507-yard, par-4 18th after hitting an exquisite 6-iron from 181 yards out from the right side of the fairway to defeat Kevin Stadler, who ended up making a bogey.

Jason Bohn was the third member of the sudden-death extra session, but he bogeyed the 18th hole when the trio began the playoff.

Moore was solid all throughout the playoff. He had a chance to win on the first playoff hole, but his 13-foot birdie chance drifted right. Stadler got up-and-down from a greenside bunker to match Moore's par.

On the second playoff hole, the 440-yard, par-4 10th, Moore hit first from the fairway, and his 6-iron approach from 183 yards away stayed out to the right, leaving him a long birdie putt.

But Moore two-putted from 58 feet, and Stadler just missed a 21-foot putt for birdie to win it.

First to play on the third playoff hole, Stadler hooked his drive into the left rough. With the ball nestled in deep in the grass, and 220 yards, all he could do was hit a utility wood to a patch of rough on the back-right end of the green.

Positioned ideally on the left side, Moore nailed a 6-iron. The ball hit in the middle, and kicked slowly toward the hole, leaving him a short birdie putt.

Stadler's chip shot from behind the green never had a chance, and he slid a 25-foot par putt by the hole.

It wouldn't have matter. Facing a putt similar to the one he had on the final hole of regulation – an 8-footer for par that would have won it there – Moore's right-to-left putt hit dead center for the victory.

Moore fired a 5-under 65 in the final round to tie Stadler and Bohn at 16-under 264.

The win came in Moore's 112th PGA Tour appearance, and 107th since her turned professional out of UNLV in the summer of 2005.

"I just want to soak it in a little bit," Moore told CBS Sports just minutes after rolling in the winning putt. "It felt like an uphill battle a lot to get to this point."

Oddly enough, Moore first played a regular PGA Tour event in 2004 as an amateur at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro, which later became the Wyndham Championship. He finished tied for 24th at that event, held at Forest Oaks Country Club.

Moore becomes the first Pierce County golfer in almost 39 years to win a PGA Tour event. Not since Ken Still's victory at the 1970 Kaiser International in California has a local product held up a trophy.

"I think it's fantastic," said Still from his home in Fircrest. "He worked hard. He's always kept plugging along, and all of a sudden, he got the enchilada. It's been 39 years. It's about time."
