Posted by Laura Gentry @ 12:01:00 am

... we've decided to pull the plug on ourselves rather than watch another month go by without new posts.

It was fun getting to know our readers online and in person. It was fun making t-shirts and having several of our t-shirts stolen. It was fun crafting inappropriate photo illustrations. But now it's time to stop having fun. Let us pay tribute to what was:

Kelly: "Poor GritCity. I'll be sad to see it go. All I can say is, I'll carry you all in the fannypack of my heart."

Laura: "Blogging about Tacoma almost made me want to move to Tacoma."

Cole: "I’ll miss all the virtual friends and virtual money we made."

Niki: "I don’t even work here anymore."

In other words, thanks and happy Thanksgiving (almost). Feel free to share your remembrances or just delete us from your RSS feeds.

Oh, also, you should follow thenewstribune.com on Twitter. I happen to know the user name and password and occasionally sneak some fake stories humor in when the bosses aren't looking.

To quote a long-gone Almost Live recurring sketch: Laaaaaame!

And wait, Niki doesn't work there any more? Man, you guys have kept us way out of the loop...
Cole Cosgrove @ 10:07 - Friday, November 21st, 2008 Email
This was Niki's last week. She left for a job at TVW, but she's still living in Tacoma.

As for "Why?", I think that this was a fun side project that requires more work hours and deserves more attention than we're able to give it right now.

We thought it was better to end it rather than give a half-hearted effort.

Well, this is a sad day for us GritCitizens.

Where will we go to laugh at our selves?

At least we still have Feedtacoma and Exit 133.

Sorry to see it close up shop.

Sad day.

OK, now I feel REALLY bad for complaining how long it had been between posts. You GritCitizens were one of my favorite reads here on the TNT blogs.

I will always have the picture of you as elves that I manufactured from the picture above. http://andrewfry.blogspot.com/2007/12/ladies-and-gentlemen-gritcity-dancers.html

this blog will live on in our hearts. I suggest all of you adopt fake names and blog your true feelings on Feed Tacoma.

At least your editors cant hurt you anymore.

Well, it is a sad day. Tacoma is a rockin' place to live but I love to make fun. You guys are a talented bunch of writers who deserve an outlet.

I am sorry if the atmosphere of the TNT does not allow you this outlet. It kind of sucks. How else are they going to draw younger readers, you know, to increase/maintain circulation unless they provide something interesting and fun to read in and amongst the news.

Pooh - I'm sad again.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Ooops. Another cut. Who's left to run the Tribune now will all of the departures?
Squid @ 15:31 - Monday, November 24th, 2008 Email
Will the last person to leave the News Tribune turn out the lights? Except for the one that illuminates the Chihuly chandelier, leave that one on.

If there was a Tacoma Blog Hall of Fame, you guys would be in it! When I saw this post on F>>T I didn’t realize it was about GC! When it becomes real work to keep GC going, it’s time to end it. We understand, and we have all been there in some form or another. Thanks to all of you - Even the “new guys” (I know we didn’t give you much of a chance). I can’t express well enough what it has meant to share laughs with all of you, to meet and hang out a few times, and to express myself though an imagined username (taken from what I was once referred to when I had an anonymous tip). For the writers and fellow commenters whom I can pretend to know so well, thanks, it was a fun ride. It's a small city; we’re keep bumping into each other. (Maybe Top of Tacoma or The Red Hot?) In the words of someone long ago “Goodbye kids.” Since I still can’t go back end edit this after I post this, I’m going to be pi$$ed that I forgot something… How many days do we still have left to comment?
And what is TVW, and how do I get it? :-)

Wow, sad day! And to think I came close to getting fired over trying to be witty on here. :( Good times...

So, Nikki... going to the Dark Side I see? I don't blame you, they have cookies! Are you going to be "On Air", or just part of the State PR machine?

What is F>>T, Dave? TWV is the State's propaganda^H^H^H^Hdisinformation^H^H^H^Hpublic affairs outlet. Check out http://www.tvw.org/index.cfm?bhcp=1 for more info.

Sooo... I guess I'll need to start reading Exit 133 and Feed Tacoma, being as I'm a lifelong Tacoma resident and all, huh?
