McLaren announced that reliever Brandon Morrow and outfielder Jeremy Reed will be optioned out immediately. Morrow will be sent to Double A West Tennessee with its warmer climate, while Reed will be sent back to Triple A Tacoma for the second consecutive year.

“Morrow is just not quite ready yet,” McLaren said. “He hasn’t pitched back-to-back yet. His velocity is great, but he’s having problem with his delivery.”

Indeed, McLaren saw first hand on Thursday night in San Francisco when Morrow walked the bases loaded to start his only inning of work. And while he got out of the inning only allowing a run, he was clearly fighting with his command and his mechanics.

“We’re going to put him on a throwing program and get him where he throws back-to-back,” McLaren said. “We’ll know when he’s ready soon and I see him being back fairly soon.”

I really feel bad for Reed.. the guy is a gamer.. I hope we can pull off a trade so he can go somewhere and have a chance to play in the bigs.. After this trip to Tacoma, he'll be out of options, so we may as well cut ties with him as I don't see him having a place with this club in the near future.. That said, anything can happen, and who knows, maybe we hold on to him and he ends up being one of the main stories of '08 or '09.. only time will tell..

Also, little typo there Divish.. It was Morrow who walked the bases loaded, not Lowe.. but we know what you meant..

Nice to see Lowe pitch a shutout inning. IF he can regain his pre injury form, it's be huge.

Ryan, you've done a great job this spring. Is Larry coming back to start the season or do you get to keep going? I'm pulling for you! Anyway, I am so glad to hear about Morrow. I'm hoping that Lowe is just light's out and the M's realize that Morrow would be better suited staying in the minors and getting stretched out as a starting pitcher. Then if Washburn or Batista get off to a good start maybe we can flip them at the deadline, or in the offseason, for a bat and bring up Morrow to replace them. Too bad the M's FO isn't that smart.

with Reed down we can safely assume Morse is on the team...?

I would guess it's a safe assumption, but Norton and Jimerson haven't been ruled out yet, so we'll see..

acqb1424, I agree. Morrow should either be a starter or temporarily in long relief; NOT the set up guy. And it appears that long relief is well covered between Dickey & Baek.

I understand with a knuckleballer it's best to have a veteran catcher, such as Burke catch his games, therefore since there isn't a starting pitching slot on this team I don't know how we would use him. I see Baek as being almost the perfect long reliever. He had several good starts for the M's whenever he was called up, but it always seemed dificult to get him beyond 5 innings. I think if Dickey is ok with being in Tacoma he can be the guy called up if any of our starters get injured.
