My count:
Good 22 Bad 30 Neutral 54 I didn't include players released, non tendered, etc, with the exception of Jose Guillen's declined option as a negative. Interesting thing is I started at the top & went down (I know that's not interesting...) & what I found was that until this year, the + & -'s were almost identical. This year, the negatives were off the chart.
Good work moo. I don't think any of us expect perfection.... all GM's miss at times. You'd just hope that you are right more often than not. You'd also hope that your wrong decisions don't have a negative impact for many many years. For example.... signing Scott Spiezio to a three year contract was a stupid move, and it was a three year stupid move (although they finally got rid of him in year 2, but had to pay him for 3).
Signing Jeff Weaver for one year was a dumb move, but he was just here for one year, so it wasn't as bad of a deal. Now.... you need to look at the players that are gone and who he kept in their place. Soriano comes to mind... as does Carlos Guillen. Would we be better off with those guys on the roster than their replacements? I'd tend to think so. The players we got in exchange for both absolutely sucked, so that would count as a double bad move. BAD BAD.
Bavasi is an arrogant jerk.. At fanfest in 2006 (I only went because the Seahawks Super Bowl sendoff rally was at Qwest that day) I watched Bavasi in a Q & A with the fans and he was so conceited I almost couldn't believe it.. At one point, an eight or nine year old kid asked, "I want to be a GM when I grow up, how do I become one?" And Bavasi looked him directly in the eye and said something to the effect of. "Don't even bother, you have to be related to somebody to get a shot, so you might as well change your goals right now." Another fan asked if he regretted some of the moves he made that didn't work out and he was extremely smug and said to the fan (and this was a lady in her 60's mind you) "What moves? Tell me one move that didn't work out! I hear all this talk but no one can come up with an answer when I ask them that." The lady was so embarrassed she left.. I wanted to shoot him, but my wife wouldn't let me and I didn't have a gun so it would have been hard..
I say, who approved all the stupid moves Bavasi was allowed to make? Let's get rid of them, they can take Richie with them! Give up on Richie, put Cario in there and let him play everyday. He presents as a real team player, something Richie never has.....Toby
