Down Memory Lane ...
Back in the American League, back in center field, Ken Griffey Jr. is batting seventh tonight for Chicago.
He and Felix Hernandez have never faced one another, so it will be interesting to see - scouts say Junior has trouble catching up to a good fastball. Felix throws one.
Should be fun to watch ...

And Round One Goes To ...
Runners on first and third base, no one out, no score. Junior vs. Felix.
Griffey lines out deep to right field, where Ichiro catches it but has no play.
RBI, Junior.
White Sox 1, Mariners 0 ...

Trouble In Center ...
Wladimir Balentien is a better corner outfielder than a center fielder, and he looks uncomfortable at times in center.
In the third inning, he misplayed a line drive by A.J. Pierzynski and it was charitably ruled a double.
That set up an inning in which the Sox scored two runs, then got to the next Junior vs. Felix showdown.
This time, with two on and one out, Junior grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.
White Sox 3, Mariners 0 ...

Man On Third, One Out ...
You know the litany by now. Adrian Beltre doubles, moves to third on a ground ball. With the chance to cut Chicago's lead, Balentien strikes out. Kenji Johjima pops out.
Beltre stays at third.
The Sox come up and Nick Swisher hits a 3-2 pitch out.
White Sox 4, Mariners 0 ...

Run, Lads, Run ...
Even when the Mariners get hits with runners in scoring position, it doesn't always lead to a run.
Twice tonight, they've singled with men on second base - and neither scored.
Miguel Cairo singled in the first inning with Ichiro on second, but he was held at third base. And in the sixth, Jose Lopez singled after a Raul Ibanez double - and Ibanez was held at third.
Both stayed at third base.
Now pitching for Seattle: Mark Lowe.
White Sox 5, Mariners 0 ...

It's Over ...
Another night, another loss - the Mariners are 1-9 in their last 10 games.
They've now been shutout five times.
White Sox 5, Mariners 0 ...

Love these in-game update, Larry. Makes me feel like I'm right at the ballpark with you. When the Mariners are allowed to expand the roster in September, do you see them bringing up Rob Johnson? He certainly has put together a fine year at Tacoma, but I can't see them bringing him up just to be No. 4 behind Clement, Johjima and Burke.

special - if the mariners call up rob johnson in september, it will be to reward him for a fine minor league season, not to give him playing time. three catchers is one too many on a roster - four means someone doesn' play.

larry any chance felix asks for a trade next season, or signs with another team after his current time with the M's ends?
Larry LaRue @ 18:54 - Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 Email
Felix has no leverage to ask for or demand a trade, but the best indication of his future plans is this: he has steadfastly refused to sign a multi-year extension in Seattle.

"three catchers is one too many on a roster - four means someone doesn' play."

If KJ didn't EVER play again for the M's it wouldn't break my heart........

I guess the M's could just imitate the Hawks with Shaun Alexander & Marcus Tubbs, pat him for not playing.......

hey larry
I am been asking and yet no one replying. But can you find out if who being call up and if Victor Diaz get a chance to get on 40 man roster by waiving Chen at Triple A because he hurt.

Will someone tel Ozzie Guillen that Little League has an 85 limit on pitches. Not the Major Leagues. Unless that has been written into the rule book.

Too bad Clay Richard wasn't allowed to continue and get that shutout. That was a true groupthink game. Deny a great performance to a rookie because it's more important to bring in those relievers and let someone get a meaningless save in the 9th. Thankfully the M's gave up enough runs so the relief corp was denied the save.

bigmike,

???

Why would you want to waive a legitimate prospect (Chen) for a AAAA player (Diaz) that has already been released by at least one other organization? Chen has a chance (a year or two out) to be a pretty good player in Seattle.

Larry,

I actually hope you are wrong a little bit regarding Rob Johnson....The Mariners best offensive and defensive line-up next year might be to have Johnson catching (supposedly the best defensive catcher in the organization who is also hitting over .300 at AAA) and Clement at either DH or 1B.

It's nice to see Clement's bat come around lately! I hope that they give Morse a chance to be the regular 1B in 2009...Clement at DH...and Johnson at C.

Thanks for all you do Larry! Where did Ryan go, by the way?
bigmike04 @ 23:45 - Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 Email
wabby sorry to burst your bubble but Chen wont be a player in mariner uniform this season as he out for the whole F*cking season and since Lopez, Bentcourt, Beltre cover the positon he plays he pretty much useless. That the reason i would waive him as he just might be career minor leaguer and Victor Diaz who is healthy this season should deserve a spot on 40 man roster.

Better yet why did mariners trade for Craig Wilson who from what been reported or saying he making 2mil to play for Tacoma. Dont you think that a little to much to trade for guy that wont be on 40 man roster.
wabubba68 @ 11:59 - Friday, August 22nd, 2008 Email
bigmike,

Get a bit of a clue. You are right about Chen being hurt...so you are thinking that you should waive a young prospect because he got hurt in favor of an aging all or nothing career AAAA minor leaguer who has already shown that he can not produce in the majors?

You don't give up on young prospects because they get hurt. You can never have enough middle infielders in an organization.

Who's defending the Wilson move??
