I've seen on many blogs and reports talk ajust about weapons failure. Many are good comments, many are good points. I was with the 2/503rd TF Rock for those 15 Months in Afghanistan. I knew and work with some of the fallen Heroes at Wanat. The issues with all the weapons, not just M4s, was mostly Maintenance and keep them well lubricated on an tough enviroment, like Wanat. I've seen guys fired 8 to 10 Mags without a single issue, other times, after 10 rounds, the jammed. A lot of the weapons at Wanat, got direct hit by the enemy. I can vouch for that, I handcarry at least 10 of them to Bagram's weapons center to get exchange for new ones. there were M14, M249, M4, M203s. Larger weapons like MK19 and .50cal were also damage, but repair parts were sent later to be repair at the near larger FOB. Some M240B got direct hit also, but were still operational. There were many things that went wrong at Wanat, not just weapons failures.

I like the two services being separate because that is how it's been since I joined the Military. The Army and Air Force have different missions. I have seen the joint forces training with both services. It will take some years to get on the same page.To me, the AF is a technical outfit. The Army is a tougher outfit because of the mission. The only thing I see that benefits both services is having planes available for transport. Every thing else is different with the two services. I guess law makers see some money being saved or something.I don't see the changes going smoothly. There is just so much difference I don't think the plan is going to work for a lot of years. I am glad I am retired.

I was told Vehicle Registration is going to Ft. Lewis. That is going to be a nightmare. I hope they send the McCord staff to work with Ft. Lewis staff. That way it won't be an all day experience.

This platoon has many in it that have had run-ins with not passing drug test and various other poor military issues, but also has good men and women who are honest, hardworking soldiers that take great pride. It is sad to say that they are up for deployement to Afganistan and with a group of screw-ups they must depend on to cover their butts; yet they know they do not know how to be responsible for their own behavior. It is sad. this guy has failed UA's and he should be ashamed of himself.

hey there Ertstic! :)
Totally agree with ya--the Ob/Gyn staff is amazing there! I've had nothing but fantastic things to say about them all, from the nurses to the students, from the urology Docs to the surgeons that all work there.
The Peds/Teen docs and staff are great too! Dr Lemmon is our favorite! He's a fantastic Doc....the Girl and I are sad he won't be around for the next year with his deployment an' all. He's got great replacements though to take his caseload.

I think our problem with our pharmacy lies in the fact that they don't have all the windows staffed. Most of the time only half the windows are open--hence my reason for wanting to take the course for Pharmacy Tech. :)
But hey, if they wanna open up another pharmacy, I wouldn't be opposed to that either! :D

Considering that the base is supposed to be expanding significantly over the next few years, this is a logical step to take - definitely not something I would consider a waste in "pork" spending, even as an avowed fiscal conservative. I am so glad to be having my first child at Madigan this fall - I am thrilled to be able to trust the staff & services at Madigan, and have had nothing but good experiences with the medical staff during this pregnancy.

My one thought is that I hope they include a separate pharmacy in this new building they're planning - it would be nice to not have to take a number and then wait an hour and a half to pick up a prescription... ;)

Everyone's situation is different.

I teach in a public school. In my school district I earn 2 personal days each year. I am sure many of you will have no sympathy with my situation because I do get 6 weeks off each summer. Unfortunately my son did not deploy in the summer. His mid-deployment leave did not fall in the summer & he will not return home in the summer. Last year I used my 2 personal days to attend a deployment ceremony at his post, but I was not able to be at the airport to see him off. I will use my 2 personal days this year to attend the coming home ceremony at his post, but I will not be able to be at the airport when he returns to the US. I am not allowed unpaid leave from my job. I am sorry if it offends you when I say I can afford to take unpaid leave. I would love to take unpaid leave. I would give almost anything to be able to be at the airport when my son steps back onto to US soil.

I will be praying that this bill passes and that it passes in time for my son's homecoming in October.

"Madigan is a logical choice for such a center, he said; about 2,700 babies are born each year there, and the hospital also hosts the military’s only fellowships in high-risk obstetrics and developmental pediatrics."
"Another factor is the rising number of soldiers who leave the Army but stay in the area with their families, often relying on Madigan as their primary medical care facility."
Howie, how is this "pork" for WA? This is not STATE funds, this is FEDERAL funds that pay for this project. And quite frankly it's a SMART move. Having a separate facility for all things female and child related will free up several offices in the MAMC complex.
2700 babies are born every year---think about that for a moment. Do the calculations on how many that is every single day.................averages out to 7 babies. I've been in MAMC when the music goes off announcing that a baby has been born and I've heard that chime go off more than FOUR times in the one hour I was there!! We have a LOT of children being born there.
MAMC is a teaching hospital as well. 981,000 appointments a year---bet that 70% of that is women and children, and the rest are retirees and AD.

This facility is going to cut down on the amount of traffic in MAMC. Make no mistake in that we're expanding and upgrading our butts off over here! Dental&medical buildings for our soldiers---instead of make-shift clinic out of mobile home shells. Barracks that are from the 60's or earlier that are being gutted out and rebuilt. Housing that is being gutted out and rebuilt.

God bless Senator Murray for all that she does for us and others. She's an amazing woman, hope she stays around for a long time.

"I for one am sick of living with people who kill, who are training to kill and who have found all forms of duplicity and word twisting to justify killing."
Well Rerolpxe, have a good life in Finland or Sweden....I hear they dig all the pacifist activities there.

And for the record, we don't train CITIZENS to kill---we train SOLDIERS, MARINES, SAILORS, and AIRMEN to defend our nation and assist other nations that ask for our help in defending their country. THAT is who we train.
