EBetterbed.jpgSpotted Tom Betterbed of Fox Island on Tuesday night at the Gig Harbor-Bellarmine soccer game, proudly wearing his black and gold USMA 10 stadium coat. No doubt he picked it up over the summer when he dropped his daughter Elizabeth off at the United States Military Academy to enter Army's Class of 2010.

The senior Betterbed reports that Elizabeth, a Gig Harbor graduate, is doing well in her first year at West Point. She's getting the military stuff and the school stuff, and local prep sports followers won't be surprised to learn she's got the soccer part down too.

Army finished the year a disappointing 4-12-2 and last in the Patriot League, but Betterbed started 16 matches and established herself in the side.

She scored one goal, and picked a good time to do it. Her 25-yard drive turned out to be the winner Sept. 15 in a 2-1 match – against Air Force. She also made all-tournament in the early season BAE Systems Classic.
