From news on athletes, tickets, facilities and the border, Adventure writer Craig Hill takes you inside the ramp up to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Just 175 miles north of Tacoma, the Vancouver, B.C., games will likely be the closest the Olympics ever come to the South Sound region.

Paul McDonald of Bellevue finished second in the Super Series slalom this morning in the first Super Series slalom of the year in Winter Park, Colo.
Cody Marshall of Vermont was third and Frenchman Thomas Fanara won the race.
From Team USA:
McDonald, the 2004 NCAA slalom champion for Dartmouth College, is in his third season with the U.S. Ski Team. He was idle most of last winter because of a continuing lower back problem, but solid rehab has him back on track."The second run was super tight, had a very quick rhythm and was a good challenge," Coach Tom Sell said. "Paul was fourth in the first run and he moved up two spots with a sweet second run. Cody led the first run and had some problems, but he's skiing so fast now and he'll get it figured out. Four in the top 10 - the day went well.

mascots for the 2010 Winter Games. The mascots were announced earlier today.
Click here for more info on the Vancouver 2010 website. Among other
things you can play recycling games and see what mascot you are most
like.
The site crashed my browser every time I visited today, so you might
want to wait a day or two before you visit - if you can contain your
excitement that long.
The Vancouver Organizing Committee met this morning in Richmond, B.C., to tour the Richmond Speedskating Oval.

The SciFi Channel rarely catches my attention when I'm channel surfing, but an abundance of London 2012 logos caught my attention today. Turns out "Doctor Who" visited the future in an episode this summer.
Nice publicity for the games, I guess, but if I were Vancouver 2010 I'd be glad the show chose the summer games over them. The show is comically bad (but maybe it's supposed to be. This series is a remake of the original "Doctor Who" that ran on BBC from 1963-89).
Here's a "Next Time ..." with "highlights" from the show. Watch at your own risk.
I ran across this video today on youtube. Check it out if you like watching lugers wipe out. You'll be especially impressed with one of the best crotch-crunching bloopers of all time.
