Bombardier is a poor choice to design the Olympic torches.
I am very offended by the current Bombardier commercial that depicts people in various countries singing the Canadian anthem. I feel that the ad is arrogant and demeaning to the nationalities depicted. How would Canadians feel if commercials were made of Canadians singing the US anthem because it is"catchy"?
To air such an insulting commercial during the Olympics, an event that strives to provide a common playing field in which citizens from various countries take part, proud to be representatives of their own country whether they win a medal or not, is globally and culturally insensitive. The fact that Bombardier approved such a distasteful ad should have raised some questions in the minds of whoever selected them to design the torch.

The idea of mountain climbers carrying placards as they summit seems absurd.

However though I am an admirer of China and its history I, like many outdoor enthusiasts, also share a sympathy for the Tibetan people.

Some sort of angle on the Tibetan question is likely to be the motivation for this action. However that decision will likely backfire. The Chinese government may wish to treat Mountain Climbers as a minority like that of the Tibetans they may well only extend the chain of sympathy to the Olympic Athletes.

At least those who are independent 'amateurs'.

But then again, maybe there aren't any independents left - even in the US athletes are under close State supervision and support. Perhaps no different from the average college athlete, a thought to consider. But then again, some of those college athletes could use some more 'control' - at least at the UW.

Perhaps a climber can figure it out? Are you listening Mr. Whittaker?

I think they should allow them to jump. Aren't we as a society moving forward in gender equality? This seems like a step backwards.
