All in all there is much less information to be had at a glance. Under the old system I could scan the headlines of all sections, not just a select two or three stories and easily see new news items and the time posted. The new format just has so much space wasted. The front page is much larger with much less useful information. Please let us know what is the upside for the TNT. Is it easier tracking or what?

I'm sure this isn't just my opinion, but it would be a whole lot easier for Doug Conarroe to make the appropriate changes if some of these comments would include reasons for why you dislike the new version. If you're going to say that you "hate it" then at least give one good reason why you have such a strong opinion. Better yet, how about trying to give at least one suggestion to improve this version.

Please take a look at the below pages to update. I'm using IE.

http://www.southsoundhomes.com/ This page hasn't been updated since 11/29/2008. The thumbnails on the left side are dated, which is how you know its old. Are you planning to update this page to the new format?

http://www.thenewstribune.com/adperfect The drop down on the menu across the top doesn't seem to be working.

http://www.thenewstribune.com/ae/tv/ I used to be able to find a nifty TV Guide on this page. Have you relocated it?

The redesign is ok, however...
How about going back to the word "Home" instead of the small house icon?
Or make the House icon bigger? Also, you need to have word wrap working when
typing here vs using the return key, most other sites are set up that way.

2. I find the pages don't fully load sometimes and have to hit the "refresh" button.
I use IE and now find this site is acting like the Seattle Times site, it doesn't load
quickly, always a pause before I can scroll down the page.

3. Today I posted a comment on the Roads projects and I couldn't find my comment.
There are 3 pages of comments and you can't read them all, when you go to either
Page 2 or 3 the site takes you back to the home page.

So far my opinion: TNT should have tested this a lot more in house before putting online

The South Sound Marketplace is more ads and that's fine, but they sure are small.

Also, I try to click on pictures about the plane crash or other articles to enlarge the
pics and they don't do that. Would be nice if they did so you can see the detail in the
pictures

Apparently, I'm the only one who can actually navigate this site better now! Before I couldn't access any drop down menus and the drop down adds would get in my way!
Now all menus are available and Voila!..there are no drop down adds at all!
I'm on a Mac using Safari.
The recent comments and online users list will be missed, but no doubt we will all figure out a way to connect. I noticed a feature when editing my profile that looked like I could keep track of my own recent comments and such....maybe that will be the solution...if it works the way I think it will!

Thanks for centering the front page. But the new design is still awful. Go back to the old one. I have no opposition to change, but only if it is good. This change was not good. I agree with others who are chapped about "Seattle-Tacoma News". One, I want "Tacoma-Pierce County News" which is why I read the TNT and not the P-I or Times. Two, if you simply must use the whole region, at least as a courtesy to your mostly Pierce County residents, put Tacoma first.

Still though, your best option would be to go back to the previous design. How many more people must tell you the new design is lame to get you to act?

Ads on pages are a requirement these days. Pop-ups tell the person that is on your site that you don't give a crap about them you are just going to pollute their PC.

People like to have control of what is on their PC and there is no control with Pop-up.

RE: -- display problems with the text overwriting in limited versions of Firefox and Safari. This is a tough one to diagnose. I have FF 2.0.0 and FF 3.0.5 on my PC and have had no problems. FF 3.0.4 and Safari 3.2 on my Mac, also with no problems.

I think you might have a CSS problem, because when I change the font size the overlapping disappears(decrease font) or gets worse(increase font).

I have given it a few days to get corrected, but will start looking for a different online source for local news.

Since many people don't like change, they are going to find something to complain about...Maybe if they realized how much work it takes to make a site like this they'd stop complaining as much.
I really hope the recent comments section comes back, though. That was the thing that made interacting with the site worthwhile, and is the reason people spent so much time on the site. Very surprised to see it go!!

What's with the "Seattle-Tacoma News, Weather, Sports.." tab? I don't want Seattle news nor do I care about what's happening in Seattle. That's why I read the News Tribune! At this rate, the word Tacoma is going to disappear from completely from our paper. It's time that the News Tribune started taking some pride in its own city. This "South Sound" and "Seattle" business is getting old fast. If a paper can't say where it's from, it has real problems. Bring back the words Tacoma and Tacoma area.
