A classic battle is heating up in the first Grand Tour of the 2009 cycling season, the Giro d'Italia. Will Lance Armstrong fulfill his Giro dream? Will teammate Levi Leipheimer win his first Giro? Will the Italians maintain their overall lead to the end? View galleries from the race here.

An unidentified man ran shirtless across Safeco Field during the Mariners and Red Sox game at Safeco Field Wednesday July 23, 2008.

Someone being arrested is no laughing matter . . . usually.
Is it more fun to laugh with someone, or at someone? I think this photograph gives ammunition to the latter.
Hopefully his friends bet him enough money to post bail, because shortly after I made this frame the shirtless man was being hauled away in handcuffs, actually I think his friends should give him extra cash for the extra skin he accidentally showed the crowd.
Hopefully the humor in this photograph helps people learn some valuable life lesson.
As a photographer I first thought of this photograph as a near miss because of the umpire's back blocking the security guard. But after looking at it again I chuckled, and when I noticed the way the umpire's arm framed the runner I began to like it, and I thought it might make other people chuckle as well. So I hope it made you laugh a little.

Soldiers attend a memorial service at Fort Lewis in Washington for four Stryker soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, who were killed while in serving in Iraq. Alison Yin/The News Tribune

Time Magazine is displaying one of our photos (above) on their site this week. Our summer photo intern Alison Yin took the photo during a soldier memorial at Ft. Lewis earlier this month. It was her first time covering a memorial service of any kind.

Time got the photo through McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (or MCT), a news service that is part of the parent company of The News Tribune, The McClatchy Company.

We always share our memorial photos with MCT because so many of these soldiers are from other parts of the country and we want these photos available to McClatchy papers across the U.S. We also have other local papers, such as The Olympian, which are part of the McClatchy family.

We have a lot of great multimedia on our web site, but sometimes it gets lost. Take a minute to visit our photos page where we have links to many audio slideshows and galleries. On the multimedia archive page, there are more galleries and videos.

If you haven't come across this audio slideshow on our site, it's a real treat. News Tribune photographer Drew Perine set up a backdrop and studio lights in three Tacoma nightclubs: Hell's Kitchen, The Loft and McCabe's. The photos were published in the GO! section, but here you can hear some of the club goers talk about their personal sense of style.
