Here's a letter that was forwarded to me, purportedly sent by Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver. I've been trying to reach Benton to confirm that he is, indeed the author, but haven't hooked up with him yet. But I have talked to other Republican senators and staff, read portions of it to them, and they say it was written by Benton. Besides backing up his longtime ally and very good friend, Sen. Pam Roach, R-Auburn, Benton is harshly critical of the GOP team that is trying to recapture some of the seats they've lost the past couple election cycles. Democrats have a 32-17 majority in the Washington Senate, and their prospects look pretty bleak, according to Benton.
Sen. Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, Republican Floor Leader said Benton doesn't have all his facts right. "He overstated what was spent," Schoesler said. And the fact that money was spent in 2007 doesn't matter because "we're ggetting ready for the (2008 election) cycle," Schoesler said. Schoesler, who is chairman of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, said he didn't want to say more because he didn't want to divulge proprietary stuff. But you can read Benton's full letter and draw your own conclusions about how the GOP will fare this fall"

As I've suspected all along. The Republican party in this state is dysfunctional. When you consider some of the candidates they have put up for elections (especially for governor) you can't help but wonder who is in charge and why. No wonder candidates aren't stepping up to the plate to run for office under the Republican banner. Although, that isn't just a problem in our state.
Yeah, and this guy Mike Hewitt (what a shame he has the same last name as Hugh Hewitt) let his caucus roll over on the "simple" majority so your property taxes could go sky high whenever they wanted to - not even with a November vote proviso the Senate Republicans had demanded for so long.
I used to donate to the Senate Republican Campaign Committee until this happened. After the reports I am hearing from here and Sound Politics, only a tough guy - and I have to warn you none of these people have said to me they'd like a shot, doubly so with the news lately - like Janelle Guthrie, Reagan Dunn, Mary "Marummy" Lane-Strow, Kathy Lambert, Marsha Louise Richards Michaelis (MLRM), or Jason Mercier (I think your readers know who and what most, if not all, of these heroes are) who have exactly 0% patience for dysfunction can save them as caucus leader. All of those people individually have dueled with the statist lions and won plus would be available for a good, padded State Senate bid provided they'd get the financing to run in a marginal seat. Once one or more got in, they'd impose the discipline necessary and back up the crack communications team the SRCC has - including an ex-EFFer and fellow former student of MLRM tactics, I believe. The House Republicans, I believe, are not far behind either. I never hear from their campaign committee. Ultimately, we need leadership - and leadership is not just one or two guys at the top. Leadership is in the mid-levels (like those I just named above as good future Senate Republicans) and in the places where the press just brushes you by, too. If you read Rudy Giuliani's book titled Leadership or stop & think for a moment, you know what I mean. I'll stop there. Comments are not allowed from anonymous visitors.
