Let's talk politics.

I got this from JeanMarie Christenson's campaign. And I'm passing it on, partly because I just noticed the JeanMarie is one word not "Jean Marie."

She's one of the Democrats going after incumbent Rep. Jim McCune, R-Graham.

JeanMarie Christenson overwhelmingly wins LD2's Democratic Nomination for State Representative.

JeanMarie Christenson won Legislative District 2's Democratic nomination for State Representative at the Nominating Convention in Graham, May 19th, easily outpacing her opponents.

Christenson's resounding 128-weighted votes reflected Party confidence.
The official tally: Christenson 128, Harper 26, Collins 27.

[More:]

In addition to her being the Democratic Party's officially nominated candidate, JeanMarie was pleased to announce her endorsement by the LD2 Democrats.

Christenson's persuasive speech expressed her fine track record of preparedness, effort, dedication, knowledge, and experience. JeanMarie helped answer questions about the technicalities of the nominating process, and her understanding of both State and local issues was clearly demonstrated.

With her campaign now in high gear, JeanMarie has strong momentum. Christenson is quoted as saying, "I will continue to dedicate myself, and work diligently for all the folks in our District and State, to help make sure everyone has a future worth walking into."

I am sure that JeanMarie is a very nice lady; however, I saw her speak recently and became somewhat alarmed at what I heard. Her stand on many issues seem to be reasonable, but her presentation is not something I found acceptable. Simply put - she ended her speach by saying, "remember my name - Christ and Son." I was not the only one in the room that did a double take. I want representation for all people, not just those that represent our Christian population. Although, I do consider myself a christian. I felt this was inappropriate, and what on earth did she mean by it. Is she Christ and Son? It was weird. My guess is she is winning the nomination for her support of the Democratic Party - Pary Politics, not respresentation for all the people.

sallyd, I think you are the one putting the "weird" spin on things- think a minute:

"Christenson" "Christ and son"- no more than a way to get you to remember a name. Not a pull for the Christian vote, not a reference to herself as a deity and His son (He didn't have a son, his Father did).

You are so off base I wonder if you are just another of the House leadership's efforts to undermine the local party in favor of the Speaker's annointed.

By the way- JeanMarie is a follower of Ramtha, so I doubt there is any Christian appeal going on...

You may think I am off base; however, I am a voter who knew nothing about her. She may want to rethink how she gets people to remember her name. As a registered voter, it really put me off. Those who know her up close and personal may not see a problem with it. But she is probably wanting votes from those who do not know her up close and personal as well. Not the best way to go about it.

I was at the 2LD Convention when Christenson made a speach that was out of this world - I mean this candidate is literally on another planet. What concerns me is that the general public will vote for her because she is a teacher and not realize that this woman is a bubble off center. I was also at the 2LC Committee meeting when Christenson, Harper and Collins made their endoresement speeches.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how the PCO's voted for Christenson. Harper and Collins are two strong candidates. I am somewhat torn in casting my vote. Collins is a young man with a fair amount of experience. Harper presents wisdom and is very pro labor. Given the state of our economy, the huge budget deficit, our enormous trade deficit and recession I am very concerned about what lies ahead of us. The last serious recession was in 1972-1974 and when we came out of the recession we had a manufacturing base. We are entered a potentially serious recession as a service economy and this is uncharted territory. We need to revive our transporation infrasturcture and restore manufacturing. We cannot afford to allow mult-national corporations to continue to send manufacturing jobs overseas. Nor can we allow investors to spend $130 billion in overseas emerging markets. We must invest in our country and this means a no nonsense pro-labor stand. Given the state of our country, I believe Harper is the right man for our government at the present time.
