Let's talk politics.

Posted by Niki Sullivan @ 01:13:00 pm

I just heard that John Kerry, an Obama supporter, will keynote the Washington State Democratic Convention next month in Spokane.

Dwight Pelz, state party chairman, sent an e-mail out to party leaders yesterday afternoon, according to my source. I don't have the e-mail, though maybe I will soon - I've had good luck lately with people sneaking me copies of things.

Update: I got this on Saturday night but was otherwise occupied. Here's the e-mail:

From: "Dwight Pelz"
Date: May 23, 2008 12:56:36 PM PDT
To:
Subject: Kerry to Keynote State Convention

John Kerry will be the keynote speaker at the State Convention in Spokane.

If you mean by sneaking, that you made this up just like you made up the other allegations in recent posts, then yes, it's much too early for that.

didn't we learn from his run for president, not to let him speak?

Niki: no, it is not too soon for us to joke about the fact -- and it is a fact -- that you ignorantly reported on something that happened, claiming potential violations that your evidence does not back up in any way.

It's not really funny, but I am sure I can come up with a joke about it. Hm. How about, "how many Niki Sullivans does it take to report on a story? Three: one to invent facts that don't exist, a second to write it up into an illogical mess, and a third to keep changing her story and defending it even when she's been proven wrong."

You owe the CBMC and Rossi an apology for your demonstrably shoddy work.

I won't claim it was a hitjob on your part. That's what some people are saying, but I don't go in for such ad hominems. I stick to the point when possible, and that is that your reporting was incorrect and sloppy and reckless.

And I say that here because of the fact that you are still being sloppy and reckless. You have a "source" that Kerry is speaking. You see, the problem is that responsible journalists do not report things without being able to verify them. So I've read two stories from you, and on both, you have acted irresponsibly.

That is troubling. Did you ever attend journalism school? I blame the News Tribune, frankly. Were I editor, I'd put you on probation, and if this kept up, I'd fire you.

With the electoral shenanigans that went on in Ohio in 2004, John Kerry, possibly, should be president, today. It's about time that Americans became a little more outraged about shady election outcomes and controversial voting machines by Diebold and ES & S. After all, if our votes are not counted correctly, or not able to be audited after the vote, then there is really no democracy in America. One caveat, however, Kerry is not without fault either, because he should have protested the election.

The Party of Commons will have a nomination for Washington Secretary of State this year, and you can bet that our candidate will be advocating for voting machines to be tested exhaustively and excluded if they do not meet high standards, for paper trails and plain-to-see audits, and that touch screens not be allowed in our state.

pudgenet still can't handle the facts about Rossi pushing the envelope. Niki was quoted in blogs all across the state and most in a positive way. Kudos for helping to make the Trib a relevant news organization.

evergreen_politician: I fear that you don't understand what actually happened in Ohio. If you are referring to RFK Jr's article in Rolling Stone, well, that article was almost complete nonsense.

I even have, on the record, one of the Democratic statisticians hired by the DNC in the aftermath of 2004, who contributed to the report that RFK based his article on, who said, categorically, that there is no evidence whatsoever that any irregularities (which were on both sides, BTW) could possibly have amounted to overturning the election in favor of Bush. And he had some choice words criticizing RFK Jr himself, too, for his misuse of the data.

CrazyJim: there are no facts that back up Niki's claims. Not to mince words, but she is ignorant of the facts and the law, and so are you.
