The Washington State Republican Party has weighed in on the Lynn Kessler is-she-or-isn’t-she endorsing John Ladenburg for attorney general drama.

Ladenburg recently told our Inside the Editorial Page blog he’d patched it up with House Majority Leader Kessler and said she would support him. Our editorial page folks checked with Kessler, who said she won’t be endorsing anyone for attorney general.

Today the Republicans pounced.

"Being caught in a bald lie is a disgrace for anyone who aspires to be Attorney General," said Washington State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser. “His dishonesty to a newspaper raises doubts about whether John Ladenburg has the integrity to be Attorney General. Ladenburg is falling behind in the race, so he’s claiming supporters he doesn’t have to try to catch up. How much lower can Ladenburg and his campaign sink?"

I am confused about this post. I don't think "support" means "endorse" - Kessler basically never endorses in races like this.

I also like how the Kessler law firm has given $1000 according to the PDC report.

Why is this even posted?

It was posted due to the fib told by our exiting exec. who stated he not only patched things up with Kessler but that "she now supported him" in his race for AG"
Caught in a lie... perfect candidate for AG.

Did you not read the other post, Caperon?

"She said she and Ladenburg had a cordial conversation, but that she will not be endorsing – or supporting – anyone for state attorney general."

Seems like she's not comfortable supporting him at all.

No surprise that her husband's law firm has donated, they're personal injury lawyers. Ladenburg gets a lot of his money from personal injury lawyers. They think they should get more of the taxpayers' money, so Ladenburg's perfect for them.

What lie? He never seems to suggest she is endorsing.

Obviously someone called Lynn and asked her if she endorsed JL. John Ladenburg never said she endorsed him.

Supporting and endorsing are not the same.

This is another example of the same old Republican tactics used in years past. No wonder why McKenna is the Chair for the McCain campaign. I would rather the political blog start asking why Washington State is the second worst state in the nation on consumer fraud. Hold McKenna to his record - don't post things that are twisting JL's words.

theyellowdart,

So does McKenna believe that to solve the government from injuring its citizen that they should be immune instead of fixing the problem?

I am confused.

Oh, Caperon, you're such a flack for Ladenburg. Quit believing every press release he puts out.

You're right that supporting and endorsing aren't the same. However, you seem to gloss over the fact that Kessler said she wouldn't be doing either of those things, even though Ladenburg said she'd be supporting him. She won't endorse Ladenburg. She won't support Ladenburg.

As to your claim, copied from a Ladenburg press release, that Washington is 2nd in consumer fraud, check out the top entry on the McKenna campaign blog (http://www.robmckenna.org/blog.aspx). The author is someone who worked for Gregoire and McKenna, and so is not easily dismissed.

And check out Rand Koler's blog at the P-I (http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/northwestlaw/archives/134848.asp). He hates McKenna, and even he concedes that McKenna is not in favor of sovereign immunity.

Caperon - the TNT's update of 6/30 stated:

"A few commenters have challenged Ladenburg's assertion that Kessler is now supporting him, so I called her this afternoon to check. She said she and Ladenburg had a cordial conversation, but that she will not be endorsing – or supporting – anyone for state attorney general. She said she rarely endorses candidates, although she recently made an exception for her colleague Jim McIntire who is running for state treasurer. – KB"

No twist that I can see. I hope this clears it up for you.

Now, these are the reason I will never-ever support John Ladenburg for anything...

For years he has claimed that "nothing's broken in Pierce County" when in fact MANY things are broken in Pierce County--and most are associated with the departments that he's responsible for.

A few examples would be:

>> failure to insure that Planning & Land Services (PALS) indentified ALL critical/sensitive land and removed ALL from the buildable lands map (as per GMA).

>> failure to insure departments fully enforce the code, such as the dire issue of the majority of Pierce County's wetlands being destroyed yet the violators are not made to undo the damage they cause, nor are they fined. Instead, they're issued permits to allow them to finish their developments (see www.lifeinpiercecounty.com for one example).

>> failure to insure responsible departments complied with NPDES requirements, leaving Pierce County taxpayers at risk of paying the $10,000 (per day) fines which the state can rightfully impose.

>> failure to insure that PALS and Public Works impose allowable fines for violations of sign code, leaving communities blanketed with illegal, off-premise signs by the thousands--the majority of which belong to the development and real-estate industries. The Council did their part, he never did his.

>> failure to recognize the need for Charter changes, demonstrated by the fact that he wrote or co-wrote the statements against seven of the nine 2006 Charter Amendments--repeatedly saying "The current system has served us well for 25 years". If this were true, how is it that 21 elected commissions concluded the amendments should be put on the ballot (which The People passed all but two of the amendments as a result)?

>> failure to properly support the Sheriff's Department which, while ranking a matched 2nd lowest in the state for LEO-to-citizen ratio, has the responsibility of manning the #1 most violent crime county in the state. Thanks to the passing of Charter Amendment 1 (one which he and the TNT opposed), The People's vote freed the Sheriff from the Executive, making him/her answerable to The People he/she serves.

>> failure to address and correct the issue of Pierce County's CrimeWarp (coined by Prosecutor Gerry Horne) which led to a disproportionate number of violent felons being exported to Pierce County for decades.

>> failure to recognize his bad decision(s) in regards to the unproven drug protocol known as Prometa. He not only failed to disclose his stock ownership in Prometa, but at the same time, authorized funding for AND lobbied for even more public funding to support Prometa, earning his second slap on the wrist from the PDC. The first slap was a result of him committing one of the two "biggest violations in the commission's 30-year history" when he used public money to pay to create and distribute biased campaign material on Proposition 1 (More Cops Now campaign). He claims that he was "not found guilty", rather than admitting the truth which is that he was indeed guilty, though got off on a technicality.

Now, in all fairness, I hope that someone can provide a list of reasons TO support John Ladenburg for AG other than "Becasue he's a democrat" or "Because I won't support a Republican". List some REAL things he's done right, or things he's done to improve Pierce County's overall wellness. Oh, and about Pierce County Responds - well, I know a few of the citizens who invested a lot of time and energy in creating solutions to the problem with accumulated solid waste and junk vehicles. Credit for the Pierce County Responds program is due to them, not JL. It just happened to finally become a reality during his reign, that's all.

Caperon. I have cut and pasted John L's blog to Seago ( see full topic under editors blog.) Our Exec. himself made the claim of her support... which upon investigation was false.

" Dave, I did not oppose the Kessler bill. In fact, I never took a position on the bill. The article in the Vancouver paper was wrong.

I was explaining to the reporter the opposition to the bill from local government elected I serve with on the Association of Counties legislative committee. Since that article came out, Kessler and I have spoken and cleared up the issue. I promised to work with her on the issue and find a compromise that could work for locals. She was very receptive to this because of my good relationship with county and city officials.

Kessler will support me and next year I will work with local government to find a solution to the problems they found in her bill. She pointed out that she cannot and will not support McKenna because he is against government accountability by promoting more government immunity."

Wow...Stacy as usual sums up so eloquently just a few of the reasons NOT to support Ladenburg. Now add using his tired old same political slurs and complaints that he's used on his previous unsuccessful run for AG. Didn't work then against previous candidates and won't work now.
I suggest the next time John L postures against a library wall of books, he pulls the dictionary and looks up "honesty and integrity"
