The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

The first Football Friday of the 2008 season has arrived. We've got plenty

A few teams got an early start last night:

-- Auburn pounded out 284 rushing yards at Federal Way, beating the TNT's preason pick to win the SPSL North. Hey, we can't win them all.

-- Spanaway Lake running back Shay Patton ran for 260 yards and three touchdowns in his team's 56-27 win over Todd Beamer.

-- Tumwater withstood Timberline's second-half surge, winning 32-27.

While we wait for tonight's games to kick off, here are some football previews from around the state:

Folks should brush up on the Greater Spokane League, considering the GSL is good enough to claim back-to-back Class 4A state titles. There's no better place to do that than right here.

The Tri-Cities Herald has a slew of previews on the Columbia Basin Big Nine, CWAC, SCAC and its local 2B and 1B schools right here.

The Bellingham Herald has the Northwest Conference covered. Take a look at this great photo of Casey Locker (or is that Marty McFly?) stepping out of a DeLorean. The Herald's tab was titled "Backs to the Future."

The Everett Herald has smothering coverage of the WesCo and Cascade conferences.

Looking for information on the 2A Greater St. Helens League and other Cowlitz County teams? Visit The Daily News' Red Zone.

We'll have the blog running during the games tonight with scoring updates and other information. If you can't make it to a game, check here to stay informed. If you do take in a game, stop by here afterward to see how your rivals fared.
