The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Here are the Week 5 Associated Press high school football polls.

For a comparison, here are The News Tribune's Week 5 rankings that were released on Monday.

Class 4A
1, Skyline (8), 4-0, 80
2, Ferris, 4-0, 70
3, Issaquah, 4-0, 57
4, Auburn, 4-0, 50
5, Olympia, 4-0, 44
6, Woodinville, 4-0, 41
7, Central Valley, 4-0, 39
8, Southridge, 4-0, 18
9, Lake Stevens, 4-0, 14
10, Graham-Kapowsin, 4-0, 11
Others receiving 6 or more points: Marysville-Pilchuck 8.

The AP has the same top-10 teams as the TNT's poll. Looks like writers around the state are finally reaching some consensus on the top-10 teams in 4A.

Class 3A
1, Bellevue (8), 4-0, 89
2, Ferndale (1), 4-0, 82
3, Lakes, 4-0, 65
4, Union, 4-0, 62
5, West Seattle, 4-0, 55
6, Kennedy, 3-1, 46
7, O’Dea, 3-1, 31
8, Eastside Catholic, 3-1, 26
9, Meadowdale, 2-1, 13
10, East Valley (Spokane), 2-2, 7

Ferndale's 41-6 win last week over previously-ranked Lynden impressed someone. I have no idea who voted the Golden Eagles No. 1, but it wasn't Ferndale's hometown newspaper.

Class 2A
1, Prosser (7), 4-0, 88
2, Archbishop Murphy (1), 4-0, 77
3, Burlington-Edison (1), 4-0, 72
4, Tumwater, 4-0, 66
5, Othello, 3-1, 35
6, Steilacoom, 4-0, 33
7, Selah, 4-0, 32
8, Pullman, 2-2, 27
9, W. F. West, 3-1, 19
10, Colville, 3-1, 12
Others receiving 6 or more points: Lynden 11.

The first nine teams are the same as in the TNT's rankings. We've got Lynden at No. 10 instead of Colville. The Lions' two losses have come to Archbishop Murphy and Ferndale.

Class 1A
1, Royal (8), 4-0, 96
2, Cashmere (1), 3-0, 91
3, Montesano (1), 4-0, 69
4, Orting, 4-0, 66
5, Forks, 4-0, 65
6, Cascade Christian, 3-1, 52
7, Chelan, 3-0, 28
8, Kalama, 3-1, 27
9, Connell, 2-2, 24
10, Cascade (Leavenworth), 3-0, 18

Again, the first nine teams here are the same as what the TNT has, only in a different order. We've got Nooksack Valley at No. 10 instead of Cascade (Leavenworth).

Class 2B
1, LaSalle (7), 4-0, 79
2, Asotin, 3-1, 67
T3, Colfax, 3-0, 61
T3, Willapa Valley (1), 4-0, 61
5, Concrete, 3-1, 32
6, Adna, 3-1, 28
7, Life Christian Academy, 3-1, 26
8, White Swan, 4-0, 24
9, DeSales, 2-2, 22
10, Garfield-Palouse, 3-0, 9
Others receiving 6 or more points: Wahkiakum 8. Reardan 7.

The TNT only ranks five teams in 2B and this week it went: LaSalle, Willapa Valley, Asotin, Colfax and Life Christian.

Class 1B
1, Cusick (5), 4-0, 85
2, Tri-Cities Prep (4), 4-0, 83
3, Almira Coulee-Hartline, 4-0, 65
4, LaCrosse-Washtucna, 4-0, 47
5, Touchet, 3-1, 27
Others receiving 6 or more points: Lummi 26. Lake Quinault 21.

Another classification where we only rank five teams. Our poll was Tri-Cities Prep, Almira/Coulee-Hartline, Cusick, Touchet and Lummi. A/C-H and Cusick play on Friday.
