The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

There are plenty of big football games being played in the state tonight. Unfortunately, many of them will not be played in the South Sound.

Here are the biggest games:

Class 4A
No. 1 Skyline at No. 2 Issaquah
No. 4 Ferris at No. 6 Central Valley

Class 3A
No. 7 Eastside Catholic at No. 8 O'Dea
No. 6 West Seattle at Rainier Beach

Class 1A
No. 8 Cascade at No. 2 Cashmere

Class 1B
No. 4 Lacrosse-Washtucna at No. 5 Touchet

The biggest game, of course is Skyline-Issaquah. It's rare to get a No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the regular season. But no less important, at least for playoff implications, are the two Metro League showdowns and the Ferris-Central Valley game. The winners of those contests will have an easier playoff draws.

The South Sound's biggest game turned out to be a blowout. Rogers thumped Graham-Kapowsin 35-7 on Thursday. That means Curtis can claim the SPSL South's No. 1 seed to the Week 10 preliminary playoff round off the Vikings win their remaining games.

Shelton knew it had a difficult challenge when the Highclimbers face No. 3 Olympia tonight. It just got tougher. The Olympian reported that 14 Highclimbers have declared academically ineligble for tonight's game.

In case you missed it, I made a post earlier this week that predicted the 4A and 3A Week 10 playoff matchups. Also, here are this week's TNT and AP rankings. You won't find much difference between the two.

This week's guest picker is Kenny Via. If you've ever reported a score or called The News Tribune looking for a score, you've probably talked to Kenny. He's a Peninsula High School graduate and says he was the definition of a "good hands" reciver, which means he's slow.
