The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Covering high school sports in Tacoma, Pierce County and the South Sound.

I'm straying from high school sports coverage for a moment here, but I think you'll enjoy it.

Halftime shows at high school basketball games rarely pull me away from adding up first-half scoring totals and getting a head-start on writing my game story. But if you've been to a high school basketball game in Tacoma in the last few years, you've probably seen the Young Ambassadors perform at halftime. These kids are fantastic. They ride unicycles and perform gymnastics and tumbling routines. They always get a standing ovation and they deserve it.

I'd love to see them get a chance to perform during a semifinal at the basketball state tournament at the Tacoma Dome. Maybe right after the Ferris sack dance, if the Saxons can find a way to return to state?

I shot this video of the Young Ambassadors at the Bellarmine Prep-Foss basketball game on Friday. Watch and see for yourself.
