The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Covering high school sports in Tacoma, Pierce County and the South Sound.

Some of you might have read a column in the Port Orchard Independent a couple weeks ago that called for Curtis High School to leave the SPSL and join the Narrows League.

I recently spoke with Curtis athletic director Terry Jenks and there is no chance of this happening.

"We are very happy being in the SPSL," Jenks said. "There has been no talk of leaving."

Speaking of Curtis, senior Kim Latschaw has signed a letter of intent to play water polo at Cal Baptist University in Riverside, Calif. Latschaw was the leading scorer for the two-time state champions and was named Washington's Offensive Player of the Year last season.

The Vikings will begin defense of their title on Feb. 23.
