The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Alyssa Andrews of Gig Harbor has been named Washington's Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Andrews, a senior with a 4.0 GPA, won the individual title with a time of 18 minutes at the Class 4A state meet in November, helping Gig Harbor to a second-place finish.

"This was her first year as a full-time runner and she showed huge improvements due to her single focus," Tides coach Patty Ley said. "She dominated the field at the Nike Regional. There were state champions from Oregon, Idaho and Alaska, but she simply ran away from the field and made it look easy."

Andrews has not yet chosen a college to attend.
