Federal Way is the West Central District champion. The Eagles beat Foss, 65-52, on Saturday afternoon at Puyallup.
Federal Way led 54-50 with 4:35 left, but finished the quarter on an 11-2 run.
**
Federal Way leads Foss 48-45 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons trailed 37-25, but stifled FW's offense during a big chunk of the period. LuQuam Thompson gave Foss a 45-43 lead with 1:16 left in the quarter. But Michael Hale III hit a lay-in and then a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to regain the lead for the Eagles.
***
Federal Way leads Foss 34-25 at halftime.
During one stretch in the second quarter, the Eagles made 3-pointers on four of five possessions and scored baskets on seven straight possessions. Federal Way extended a two-point lead to a 32-19 advantage during that span.
*****
Federal Way leads Foss 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Foss is 1-for-3 from beyond the arc. The Falcons only basket in the period was a 3-pointer from Damari Lewis; the rest of their points have come off free throws.
FW's Isiah Umipig hit a baseline jumper as the quarter expired.
Decatur locked up the West Central District's No. 3 seed, beating Curtis 68-58.
Gators guard Marcus Tibbs broke the game open at the start of the fourth quarter. Leading 46-44, Tibbs slammed home a missed 3-pointer and on the next possession Cam Schilling hooked him up with an alley-oop, forcing Curtis to call a timeout to quell Decatur's momentum.
Vikings guard Marquise Doss hit a 3-pointer aftet the timeout to make it, 48-47, but Decatur's Terrell Williams countered with a trey of his own keeping the Gators in front.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Decatur leads Curtis, 46-44.
The score was tied 31-31 at halftime. The winner of this game gets the WCD's No. 3 seed, which is placed on the state bracket as a No. 1 team, and the loser is the district's No. 6 seed.
Abdul Gaddy and Joshua Smith, possibly the two best high school basketball players in the state, will not be at the Class 4A state tournament.
Gaddy's Bellarmine Prep Lions were eliminated, 78-68, by state tournament-newbie Beamer and Smith's Kentwood Conquerors fell to rival Kentridge, 51-41.
Gaddy, a senior, does have a pair of prestigious all-star games to look forward to in April -- the McDonald's All-American game and a couple weeks later the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Ore. After that, it's on to the University of Washington.
Smith will have another chance to get back to state -- he went as a freshman, but missed out last season, too. In the meantime, he'll likely spend time getting more familiar with any number of the universities and colleges courting him.
Smith told TNT reporter Todd Milles tonight that he has not committed to any school and that he is "wide open."
A boring, sloppy, slow-paced game started cookin' in the fourth quarter, and the Conquerors did their best to steal one at Auburn High. Kentridge won, 51-41.
Trailing by 11 with four minutes remaining, Kentwood went on a 7-0 run to cut it to 42-38 with 2:36 to go.
But the Chargers' guards would not let this one get away. Kentridge scored on four consecutive possessions, capped by Gary Bell's putback with 1:01 remaining, to give the team a 49-41 lead, and Kentwood missed its final four shots.
Kentridge earns the No. 4 seed from the WCD to the 4A state championships starting Wednesday.
The thud you heard all the way back in Tacoma was prized Kentwood High giant Joshua Smith hitting the floor a couple times in the third quarter.
The clank noise was his teammates missing a whole lot of shots.
Kentridge's guards have paved the way for a win that would send the Chargers to state. They lead 35-24 starting the fourth quarter at Auburn High.
Auburn Mountainview has a 21-20 lead over Port Angeles at halftime.
Jessica Madison has 9 points for Port Angeles, while Aalia Braboy leads the Lions with 6.
Excuse the tardiness on the updates from the Kent showdown as the post-game locker room session for Bellarmine Prep ran long.
Anyway, Kentwood is playing sloppy, and the Chargers' guards are taking control. Kentridge leads 33-20 with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter.
Jessalyn Clark scored 11 points and Jaynae Sayler had 10 as Enumclaw kept its season alive. The Hornets beat Mount Rainier 45-34 in the 3A WCD-SW girls bi-district tournament tonight.
Enumclaw will play the winner of Auburn Mountainview-Port Angeles on Friday at Clover Park.
In the end, it was too much of the Beamer High tandem of guard Napa Mefi (28 points) and post Kevin Davis (25 points), and the Titans are going to the Class 4A state tournament for the first time in their school history.
Beamer beat Bellarmine Prep in a winner-to-state, loser-out WCD game, 78-68, at Auburn High School, and will go as the No. 5 seed.
Lions senior Abdul Gaddy, headed to the University of Washington next fall, scored 24 (with seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and one blocked shot) in his final game, but fouled out with 32.4 seconds remaining.
Mefi was the spark plug, hitting five 3-pointers for the Titans, including three in the first 51/2 minutes of the third quarter to lead Beamer back from a deficit.
Davis was tremendous in the second half, too, scoring 14 points, including 10 in the final quarter.
A 12-0 run to start the fourth quarter has put the Beamer High Titans in the driver's seat in this winner-to-state 4A game at Auburn.
They lead Bellarmine Prep, 69-59, with 2:21 to go.
Enumclaw turned the ball over 10 times in the first quarter against the Mount Rainier 3/4-court trap and needed to score five points in the final 1:03 of the period to close to four points.
The pace has slowed. Beamer's Napa Mefi has warmed up in a loser-out, winner-to-state 4A WCD game at Auburn High.
Mefi, a 10th grader for the Titans, hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter, and Bellarmine star Abdul Gaddy had an uncharacteristic four turnovers as Beamer leads 52-49 at the end of threee quarters.
Mefi leads all scorers with 19.
Twice, Bellarmine Prep had leads of nine points, but consecutive 3-point baskets by Napa Mefi (two) and Chase Hildenbrandt (one) with less than two minutes to go has cut the Lions' lead at halftime to 37-33 at Auburn High School.
Kevin Davis, the Titans' 6-foot-8 post, scored seven of his team-high 11 points in the second quarter. Hildenbrandt has 10.
Lions star Abdul Gaddy has nine points, but was held scoreless for the final 71/2 minutes of the quarter. Younger brother, Donald, leads the team with 10.

Former Bellarmine Prep star Avery Bradley has helped Findlay Prep rise to No. 2 in USA Today's national rankings. The University of Texas-bound guard has also accumulated quite a few frequent flier miles.
I saw a story on prep hoops teams traveling long distances for games come over the wire and Bradley's Findlay Prep is featured prominently. He's also quoted in the story.
Here it is:
Some prep teams log big miles for games
By NANCY ARMOUR
The Associated Press
It was almost 2 a.m. by the time the Findlay players tumbled into bed at the hotel, the end of yet another long day of carrying bags through airports, waiting in security lines and cramming their long, lanky frames into airplane seats for a cross-country flight.
A few hours’ sleep in beds far from their suburban Las Vegas homes, and it was time to get ready for their first game. It’s a schedule minor leaguers and some college players know all too well.
The Findlay Pilots, however, are still in high school.
And trips like that are hardly unusual for many top prep basketball programs.

With the rest of the winter sports behind us, we are free to throw all our efforts to baseketball for the next three weeks.
Here's a primer on the boys 4A and 3A district/regional tournaments around the state. I'm working on a look at the girls and it should be up Monday afternoon.
CLASS 4A
Northwest District
State berths: Three
Clinched: Mariner (18-4), Mountlake Terrace (17-5)
Still dreaming: Jackson (14-9), Lake Stevens (18-4), Marysville-Pilchuck (14-7), Stanwood (16-6)
The lowdown: Mariner and Mountlake Terrace will play on Saturday for the district title and the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds to the state tournament. In the loser’s bracket games on Tuesday, Marysville plays Stanwood and Jackson faces Lake Stevens. The winners will meet on Friday for the No. 3 seed to state.
View the bracket here.
KingCo/Greater St. Helens tournament
State berths: Four
Clinched: Garfield (19-3), Inglemoor (17-5)
Still dreaming: Bothell (10-12), Evergreen (Vacouver) (14-5), Heritage (12-10), Issaquah (13-9), Mountain View (11-9), Redmond (13-9), Roosevelt (12-10)
The lowdown: The KingCo and Greater St. Helens League have pooled their state berths in this bi-district tournament. But KingCo’s Crown and Crest division champions will get the top two seeds to state. Those seeds will be decided when Garfield plays Inglemoor in the league title game at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Juanita. There are two KingCo loser-out games on Tuesday: Redmond-Bothell and Issaquah-Roosevelt. The winners will play Thursday to determine their GSHL opponents in winner-to-state, loser-out games on Saturday. The winner of that KingCo game will host the No. 2 team from the GSHL, while the loser will travel to the GSHL’s top seed.
Who will those GSHL teams be? That is still to be determined. Heritage will play Evergreen in a loser-out game on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to meet Mountain View on Thursday for the league’s Nos. 1 and 2 seeds.
View the bracket here.
West Central District
State berths: Six
Clinched: Curtis (18-5), Decatur (20-3), Federal Way (22-2), Foss (19-4)
Still dreaming: Beamer (12-11), Bellarmine Prep (14-10), Central Kitsap (16-8), Kentridge (15-8), Kentwood (18-6), Lincoln (16-8), Mount Tahoma (15-8), Rogers (15-8)
The lowdown: The semifinals are set. On Wednesday at Puyallup, Decatur will play Foss at 6 p.m. and then Curtis will take on Federal Way at 8 p.m. All four squads are state-bound, leaving eight other teams in the loser’s bracket vying for two spots. Kentwood is among the teams in the loser’s bracket and will play Lincoln at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Foss. Abdul Gaddy’s Bellarmine Prep must beat Central Kitsap at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Tahoma to stay alive.

Eastern Regional
State berths: Three
Clinched: None
Still dreaming: Eisenhower (22-1), Wenatchee (15-9), Richland (14-9), Gonzaga Prep (20-2), Lewis and Clark (13-10), Pasco (16-8), Davis (10-14), Walla Walla (17-6)
The lowdown: The Eastern Regional tournament, comprising teams from the Greater Spokane League and CBBN, begins Tuesday. A week ago, Eisenhower and Gonzaga Prep were favorites to reach the regional title game and secure state berths. But then Walla Walla defeated Ike on Saturday for the district title and enters the regional with the CBBN’s top seed. That means if Ike and Gonzaga Prep each win on Tuesday, the Cadets and Bullpups will meet on Friday in a winner-to-state game and the other will be bounced to the loser’s bracket and must win two games to get the regional’s No. 3 seed.

CLASS 3A
Northwest District
State berths: Two
Clinched: None
Still dreaming: Everett, Ferndale, Glacier Peak, Lynnwood, Meadowdale, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, Shorecrest
The lowdown: This Northwest Conference and WesCo tournament begins Wednesday. Meadowdale and Mount Vernon are the top seeds from their respective leagues.

The lowdown: This Metro and KingCo tournament starts on Tuesday. Franklin, Bellevue, Rainier Beach and Seattle Prep have first-round byes and can clinch a state berth by winning their first two games.
View the bracket here.
West Central/Southwest Bi-District
State berths: Seven
Clinched: None
Still dreaming: Clover Park (14-7), Enumclaw (20-1), Franklin Pierce (11-10), Lakes (15-6), Union (15-6), Columbia River (16-5), Camas (9-11), Renton (17-2), Mount Rainier (16-4), Kennedy (12-8), Foster (15-5), Evergreen (Seattle) (7-12), North Thurston (15-6), North Kitsap (16-4), Timberline (9-11), Bremerton (11-9), Olympic (10-10), Capital (15-6)
The lowdown: The SPSL, Greater St. Helens League and Olympic Western League all send teams to this 16-team tournament. You might have counted 18 teams listed in the “still dreaming” category. That’s because there are two OWL winner-to-district games that will be played on Tuesday – Timberline at Bremerton and Olympic at Capital.
View the bracket here.
Eastern Regional
State berths: Two
Clinched: None
Still dreaming: Mount Spokane (8-14), North Central (12-10), Rogers (Spokane) (9-13), Shadle Park (18-4), Sunnyside (10-10), Yakima West Valley (13-7)
The lowdown: Shadle Park and Yakima West Valley have first-round byes in the tournament, which starts Tuesday.

Jimmy Belleville leapt to his feet and crossed his forearms above his head, banging them together four times.
One thump for each wrestling state championship.
“Four for four,” said the Black Hills senior, who became the fifth wrestler in state history to win four state titles.
Belleville won his final title in dramatic fashion, recovering from an early mistake to pin Burlington-Edison’s Corey Kleppe in 47 seconds in the 160-pound final at Mat Classic XXI on Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
Belleville (39-2) slipped while going for a head-and-arm, a move he admitted was risky, and Kleppe capitalized, scoring a two-point takedown of the University of Wyoming-bound wrestler just 28 seconds into the match.
It didn’t take long for Belleville to regain control of the match. Moments later he scored a reversal and in the same motion pinned Kleppe, ending the match in 47 seconds.
“He did a quick little thing to pin me,” Kleppe said. “I’d love to wrestle him again. I haven’t wrestled many guys of his caliber.”
Belleville is the first wrestler to win a fourth title since Kelso’s Brandon Sitch accomplished the feat in 2006. Belleville won his previous titles at 103 pounds, 125 and 145. At Mat Classic XXI, he was positively dominant. Belleville recorded three first-round pins and a technical fall in the quarterfinals.
“He wrestled really well,” Wolves coach Mark Grindstaff said.
Belleville wasn’t the only Black Hills wrestling looking to add to a state title collection. Senior Nick Burnham was going for his third crown, but he was upset by Quinn Gannon of Spokane West Valley, 7-3, in the 130-pound final.
Deer Park ran away with the team title. The Stags won six individual titles and scored a 2A-record 184.5 points. W.F. West was second with 95.5 points.
Five 2A wrestlers repeated as champions. Deer Park junior Drew Acorn won at 119 pounds, Washougal senior Daniel McElhaney was first at 135, Stag senior Cody Miller won at 152 and Bellingham senior Reid Chivers won his third straight 189-pound crown.
Elma sophomore Brad Watson beat Grandview’s Santos Guillen, 10-4, in the 103-pound final. Fife’s John Rhodes (285), River Ridge’s Cameron Smith (189) and Elma’s Nick Watson (171) reached their respective title matches but lost.
Taylor Meeks didn’t seek approval from his Orting wrestling teammates before he spoke for them, but it’s doubtful any of the Cardinals would take issue with his words.
“I’m sick and tired,” Meeks said, “of finishing in second place.”
After three seasons of being the runner-up, Orting finally broke through and won its first team state championship in school history. The Cardinals walloped the rest of the field in Class 1A at Mat Classic XXI at the Tacoma Dome. Orting sent five wrestlers to the finals on Saturday night and four won titles, helping the Cardinals total 201 points. Warden was second with 127.
“This is the best feeling in the whole, entire world,” said senior John Thompson, who won the 145-pound crown. “It wasn’t just me winning, it was the entire team.”
Freshman Drew Templeman claimed the first, beating Vashon’s Sam Chapman, 5-1, at 112 pounds. After wrestling each other at postseason tournaments the last two weeks, there was little either wrestler could hide.
“The difference this time was the crowd,” Templeman said, referring to about 100 screaming Orting fans in the southeast stands. “No doubt about it.”
Junior Garrett Mann followed with technical fall, 17-2, victory over Castle Rock’s Matthew Payne in the 130-pound finals.
Thompson picked up the next title when he beat Cashmere’s Josh Mason, 6-3, at 145 pounds.
Meeks (35-0) capped Orting’s title matches by pinning Omak’s Robert Miller in 4 minutes, 21 seconds, at 171 pounds to complete an undefeated season. The state’s top-ranked wrestler at his weight in any classification, Meeks won his first match of the tournament by technical fall and pinned his next three opponents.
“He’s just solid,” Cardinals coach Mike Sowards said. “He just gets better and better. He’s going to make a heck of a college wrestler.”
When the Cardinals clear room for the state title in the school trophy case, they might want to make extra room for potential hardware from 2010. Of the 16 wrestlers Orting brought to Mat Classic, 13 were underclassmen, including four finalists.
“Hopefully we do this all over again next year,” Templeman said. “That would be pretty cool.”
In other 1A finals, Jacob Lauderdale of Lakeside won his second championship, defeating Orting’s Antonio Brown, 5-1, at 125 pounds. Vashon senior Rogen Lopez beat Chelan’s Gage Schmidt, 4-2, in the 140-pound finals.
Zillah sophomore Chris Castillo is on track to join the elite five-man group of four-time state champions. The 152-pounder edged Omak’s Andrew Miller, 10-8, in overtime.
In the B team title race, Republic held off Kittitas for the second straight season, winning, 113.5-107. Republic senior J.J. Gubler won his third title, beating Ray Tennehill of Liberty Bell by technical fall, 16-0. In a meeting of two 2008 champions, Republic’s Ryn Rollins beat Mary Walker’s Conan Kalugin, 4-3, at 125 pounds for his third state championship.
Here are some pieces of information we've gleaned from the record book and uncovered at Mat Classic XXI.
Statistically speaking...
Of the 32 defending champions at Mat Classic XXI, 28 remain in the championship brackets. Included in this group are all eight of The News Tribune’s “Untouchables.”
Kelso junior heavyweight Alisha Beach, a potential four-time state champion, is going for her third state championship. Beach pinned both her opponents on Friday.
Zillah sophomore Chris Castillo and Kiona-Benton sophomore Sheridan McDonald are also potential four-time champions. Castillo, who won the 1A 140-pound crown last year, is in the semifinals at 152 pounds. McDonald won the girls 135-pound title last season and has returned to the semifinals.
The following coaches earned coach of the year honors: Rex Febus, Mount Vernon; Mike Sowards, Orting; Jim Meyerhoff, Emerald Ridge; Craig Foster, Blaine; Randy Mulrony, Pomeroy; and Jamie Wise, Moses Lake.
Super-standout bracket
Republic High's Ryn Rollins thought attrition, or somewhere down the line, common sense would intervene.
By season's end, nothing did.
So Mat Classic XXI had a first – three reigning state champions in the same bracket. Tulalip Heritage's Demitri Robinson (won at 103 in 2008), Mary Walker's Conan Kalugin (112) and Rollins (119) all were grouped in the Class B 125 class Friday.
While Robinson was upset in his opening match, a 6-5 loss to Reardan's Kaare Anderson, Rollins and Kalugin were victorious in their two matches, and will square off for the state title tonight.
"When I found out at league a few weeks ago, I thought, 'Wow, this is going to be harder than I thought,'" Rollins said. "But it's always better beating someone who is good, than someone that's not."
A different colored shoe for each foot
Why use a matching pair of shoes, when two different shoes work just as well?
Senior Joey Salgado of Bonney Lake (152) has split two pairs of shoes with his friend Jeremy Gurule (112) of White River since the two were freshman. Salgado’s pair of wrestling shoes -– a black shoe with red stripes on the left foot and a yellow shoe with grayish-white insets on the right foot –- have been the footwear he’s been wearing all season long.
And the unusual mix of shoes, not particularly well-matching with the Panthers’ school colors of black, silver and teal, have served Salgado well.
“This is the combo that works,” he said.
In his final year of high school wrestling, the first-time state participant wrestled his way into the semifinals after pulling out a 6-4 win over Conner Brame of Ferndale.
The motivation to medal was enough to find that extra ounce of energy to pull out the quarterfinal win and that the semifinal opponent will be two-time state champion Derek Garcia of Sedro-Woolley is just fine with Salgado.
“I think it will be a good experience,” Salgado said of the prospect of facing of with the undefeated Cubs’ junior, who improved to 36-0 with two victories by pin on Friday. Garcia spent three minutes total on the mats, pinning Andre Courie of Timberline at the 2:34 mark and Isaac Tadeo of Auburn-Mountainview after 24 seconds in the quarterfinal.
No brotherly love for Ford
River Ridge junior Marques Ford, who won the Class 2A 140-pound title last season, might find himself looking over his shoulder after Friday. Not in any general sense, but specifically looking for a name – Reijm.
Two years ago, in the semifinals at 135 pounds, Ford ran into senior Taylor Reijm of Burlington-Edison and lost, 6-4. In the 2A 145-pound quarterfinals on Friday, Taylor’s younger brother Kyle, a sophomore, was Ford’s opponent.
The second Reijm did it again, getting a reversal in the final 10 seconds of the third period to upset Ford, 7-6.
“Hard work paid off,” Burlington coach Kirk Hamilton said. “Sometimes it’s just the way it works – the bracket. Kyle struck when he had the chance.”
But did the sophomore ever think he really had a shot at the state champ?
“No,” Reijm said. “I was thinking I had to do the best I could, and whatever happens would happen.”
For three consecutive years, the Orting High Cardinals have played second fiddle in the Class 1A team race at Mat Classic against the Eastern Washington powerhouses.
They're hoping 2009 is a different story.
After the first day at Mat Classic XXI, Orting is guaranteed to have 12 state placers of the 16 participants it sent to the Tacoma Dome.
Eight Cardinals wrestlers – Drew Templeman (112 pounds), brothers Shannon and Brady Maris (119), Antonio Brown (125), Garrett Mann (130), Nikko Veltri (140), Thompson (145) and reigning 160 champion Taylor Meeks (171) – are through to the semifinals Saturday.
Jake Swartz (green singlet) in the quarterfinals at Mat Classic XXI. Swartz, one of The News Tribune's "Untouchables," pinned Ferris' Russell Stinson in 5:05.
Black Hills' Jimmy Belleville wrestles Burlington-Edison's Juan Canalas in the first round of the Class 2A 160-pound division at Mat Classic XXI. Belleville is going for his fourth state championship.
Here's a clip from Efrain Aguilar's quarterfinal victory over Zach Holland of Vancouver Evergreen in the Class 4A 119-pound division. The Graham-Kapowsin wrestler, who won the 112-pound crown last season, won the match, 6-0.
Woodinville won the team title and Kentlake's Kayla Shira claimed the all-around crown at the Class 4A gymnastics state meet today. You can view the results here.
The 2A/3A competition will begin later tonight, and the individual event competition is scheduled for Saturday.
Here's a clip from River Ridge's Marques Ford, a junior who won the Class 2A 140-pound title last year, in his first-round match against Selah's Chris Rowe in the 145-pound bracket.
Ford, in the white singlet, scored a two-point takedown and three-point near fall in this clip on his way to winning the match.
The WIAA will be updating the results from Mat Classic XXI right here. It appears there's a networking problem, but it should be corrected soon.
In the meantime, here are some things I've gleaned from the brackets:
-- There are 32 defending champions here.
-- One of them, Black Hills senior, Jimmy Belleville, can become the state's fifth four-time champion if he doesn't lose this weekend.
-- Sedro-Woolley junior Derek Garcia will go for his third title, this time at 152 pounds in 3A. Some say Garcia is one of the best wrestlers ever in the state.
--Zillah's Chris Castillo won the 140-pound 1A title as a freshman, so he's a potential four-time champion.
-- The 140-pound 3A bracket has two defending champions, Enumclaw's Jason Gray and Olympic's Brandon Yeik.
-- The 125-pound B bracket has THREE defending champions -- Demitri Robinson (103), Conan Kalugan (112) and Ryn Rollins (119). Whoever wins this title will have earned it.
This will be the place to find up-to-date information on Mat Classic XXI, the boys swimming and diving state championships and gymnastics state championships.
We will have coverage from those three state tournaments, providing notes and stories from all the events, photo galleries and video.
If there's a result or something else you want to know, let us know in the comments section and we'll do our best to run down that information.
Here are the previews that ran in Friday's newspaper:
Wrestling -- Black Hills 160-pounder Jimmy Belleville is going for a fourth state championship. He would be the state's fifth four-time champion. Click that link to see The News Tribune's eight Untouchables.
Gymnastics -- A new all-around champion will be crowned in Class 4A.
Boys swimming -- Gig Harbor swimmer Mitchell Reed has taken up swimming again after being ranked as a youth.

This video is from last year, but it's pretty cool and worth checking out again. Plus, I imagine there's not much change in how Mat Classic gets set up each season. Enjoy this time-lapse video of the set-up of the 2008 Mat Classic.

The reunion of “Fire and Ice” will be Super-Sized.
Former Bellarmine Prep teammates Abdul Gaddy and Avery Bradley have been selected to play in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American basketball game.
“It’s a great honor,” said Gaddy, the University of Washington’s future point guard. “It’s going to be fun and I’m going to get to play with Avery again.”
Bradley, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard committed to the University of Texas, played for the Lions for three season before transferring in August to Findlay Prep of Henderson, Nev.
The game will be played April 1 in Miami and will be televised on ESPN. Louisville-bound point guard Peyton Siva of Franklin High was also selected to play in the prestigious game. Gaddy, Bradley and Siva are the first players from the state to be named to the team since 2006 when Seattle Prep’s Spencer Hawes was on the West roster.
You can view the complete McDonald's All-American teams here.
Gaddy said he was looking forward to spending time in Miami with his family and friends.
“We’re all looking forward to it,” said the state’s reigning Gatorade Player of the Year. “I think they’ve got some funs things for us to do down there.”
Bellarmine Prep coach Bernie Salazar said Gaddy’s selection is a product of his tenacious work ethic.
“This is a testament to Abdul’s ability, but more of a testament to his work ethic,” said Bellarmine Prep coach Bernie Salazar. “He’s not faster, stronger or taller than a lot of his opponents. But he works harder than all of them.”
Bradley and Gaddy picked up another big honor on Tuesday when USA Basketball announced that the two were members of its 2009 Men’s Junior National Select team that will play in the 12th Annual Nike Hoops Summit on April 11 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore.
Bradley has helped Findlay Prep (28-0) achieve the No. 2 national ranking in USA Today’s Super 25. Gaddy said he speaks ‘every day” with Bradley.
“He’s doing good down there,” Gaddy said. “His team is so good that he’s not scoring as much as he did when he was here, but he’s scoring more with fewer opportunities and that’s making him better.”
Gaddy will lead his team into the first round of the Class 4A West Central District tournament today when the Lions travel to eighth-ranked Kentridge (14-7).
“They’re a good team,” he said. “They beat (top-ranked) Federal Way and (No. 6) Kentwood, so they’re obviously a tough team. We’ll have to be ready to come out and play.”

What an ending to the Mount Tahoma-South Kitsap Narrows League girls basketball playoff game.
Sophomore guard Keana Magalei made two of three free throws after time had expired, lifting Mount Tahoma to a come-from-behind victory over South Kitsap in the league playoffs at Foss.
That's a great photo that captures Mount Tahoma's emotion and excitement. I understand we'll have a photo gallery of the game you can view here, plus galleries from other high school sports events, like Thursday's Foss-Central Kitsap game.
Magalei was sent to line to shoot three free throws when she was fouled releasing a rushed 3-point attempt about 10 feet beyond the arc. The T-birds
“I couldn’t stop shaking,” said Magalei, who missed the first but made the next two free throw attempts. “I just focused. It was like my life was on the line.”
The T-birds will play Gig Harbor at 7:45 p.m. today at Foss for the No. 2 seed to the West Central District tournament. South Kitsap
Magalei led Mount Tahoma with 16 points and Jassitey Mamea added 12. The T-birds made 10 of 23 3-pointers.
Mount Tahoma trailed by 11 points halfway through the third quarter, but hot 3-point shooting helped the T-birds go on a 20-4 run and take a 40-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Late in the final period, the Wolves answered with a 13-2 run, giving them a 52-51 lead with 4.5 seconds left.
That’s when the T-birds rebounded a missed free throw and quickly pushed the ball up court for Magalei’s 3-point attempt.
Molly Werder led the Wolves with 16 points.
South Kitsap was hampered by poor free throw shooting late in the game; the Wolves went 3-for-12 from the line in the last 1:36 of the game.
Ninth-ranked Bellarmine Prep rolled over the Tides, 66-27, in the championship game, winning its first league title sine 2000. Junior guard Mechela Barnes led the Lions with 15 points and guard Grace Beardemphl finished with 13.

There’s plenty at stake when Lincoln and Mount Tahoma meet tonight in the Narrows League playoffs. Forget about rivalry, these teams need to win to ensure themselves a higher seed in the treacherous WCD tournament. The loser of this game could potentially face No. 2 Kentwood or No. 6 Curtis in the first round of the district tourney.
Where: Foss
Time: 6 p.m.
Wilson is in the Narrows League playoffs for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Rams can secure a spot WCD tournament by beating Olympia tonight and winning again on Saturday against the loser of the South Kitsap-Bellarmine Prep contest.

It's not official, but the Narrows League will most likely become a multi-classification league with 4A and 3A schools.
Narrows League athletic directors, principals and superintendents attended a meeting Thursday night at Bellarmine Prep to discuss possible changes to the league beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
Here's my story in today's paper.
Among the possible modifications discussed was becoming a multi-classification league and the addition of schools. Representatives from the Bethel, Clover Park, Franklin Pierce, North Thurston, North Kitsap and Yelm school districts were in attendance. I was told that other members of the South Puget Sound League and Olympic League were invited, but could not get an exact count on what schools were represented. In all, 48 athletic directors, principals and superintendents attended the meeting.
There were no discussions regarding what schools would seek admission to the Narrows League or how many schools would be allowed to join. South Kitsap athletic director Ed Santos, head of the Narrows League realignment committee, said the meeting was called so schools can prepare for the upcoming reclassification in December. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Associations reclassifies schools every two years based on their enrollment of students in grades 10-12.
“The purpose of this meeting was to have an open and frank dialogue about what the Narrows League might possibly look like after the next enrollment cycle,” Santos said.
Tacoma School District superintendent Art Jarvis was in favor of the Narrows League going multi-classification. Currently, Wilson, Lincoln, Gig Harbor and Bellarmine Prep all "opt up" to 4A. But more school are expected to be 3A in the next enrollment cycle. If the league does not go multi-classification, Jarvis said it is possible that the Tacoma schools would leave the league.
“If the Narrows League decided they wanted to be 4A, we could very gracefully do something different in Tacoma,” he said. “What that would look like, who knows?”
Santos acknowledged that there is a "high probability" that the Narrows League will be a multi-classification league.
So, what should the Narrows League look like in 2010?
