The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Tuesday’s highlights

Mount Tahoma’s girls beat Olympia, 69-65, in a Narrows League tie-breaker to claim the Bay Division’s No. 2 seed. The Thunderbirds’ Carrie Ojeda scored a game-high 23 points, Jassitey Mamea tallied 17 and Keana Magalei had 16. Olivia Rethwill led Olympia with 13 points. Steilacoom’s Greg Herd scored 19 points, leading the Sentinels to a 57-49 win at Eatonville.

Kenneth Thomas tallied 15 points for White River, helping the Hornets to a 45-37 victory over Sumner.

Martin Sanchez’ 15 points led Orting in the Cardinals’ 52-45 win against Seattle Christian. Cory Bishop chipped in 13 points and Dylan Utley had 12.

Kelly Costello scored 14 points and Zelda Porter added 12 for No. 8 Vashon in the Pirates’ 54-29 win at Life Christian. The Eagles’ Dana Goularte finished with 18 points.

Weather won't keep the two SPSL North tie-breaker basketball games from being played tonight.

The Federal Way-Auburn Riverside girls game will tip at 6 p.m. and the Federal Way-Kentwood boys game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

I spoke with someone at Auburn High School who said it was only raining at the school. Lucky them. I see at least two inches outside my window in DuPont right now.

The Mount Tahoma-Olympia Narrows League girls basketball tie-breaker was still a go, too.

If anything changes, we'll post an update here.
