Four Kentridge boys scored in double-figures in the Chargers’ 68-53 win over Rogers in the SPSL tournament. Shaquielle McKissic led Kentridge, which earned the league’s No. 5 seed, with 19 points and sophomore guard Gary Bell had 15. Garin Peyton scored 13 points for Rogers, the league’s No. 6 seed.
Jacqie Evenson scored 12 points and Brittany Barrington added 11 as the Federal Way girls secured the SPSL’s No. 3 seed with its 53-44 win over Rogers. Nichole Jones led the Rams with 16 points.
Auburn Riverside’s girls rolled over Puyallup, 72-29, to claim the SPSL’s No. 5 seed. Amanda Thompson scored 22 points for the Ravens and Kat Cooper had 14. Lauren Picha finished with 11 for the Vikings.
Lake Stevens easily claimed the team title at the 4A Region I wrestling tournament, beating second-place Snohomish, 261-162, and Auburn, Tahoma and Kentwood followed. Local champions were Kentwood’s Ruben Navejas (103 pounds) and Cody Quinn (140), Tahoma’s Nick Bayer (171) and Konner Knudtsen (215) and Auburn’s Jake Swartz (189).
South Kitsap edged Heritage for the team title at the 4A Region III wrestling tournament, 162.5-159, as four Wolves won titles. Shelton’s Jordan Frost won the 189-pound title.
Orting dominated the 1A Region I wrestling tournament, racking up 426 points. Port Townsend was second with 171. Eight Cardinals – Dakota Stiles (103), Drew Templemen (112), Shannon Maris (119), Antonio Brown (125), Garrett Mann (130), John Thompson (145), Taylor Meeks (171) and Alex Barnes (285) – claimed individual championships. Vashon’s Rogen Lopez won at 140 pounds.
Emerald Ridge and Rogers tied for the team title at the Region II girls wrestling tournament. Federal Way’s Jocie Weinberger (125), Spanaway Lake’s Cassi Curtis (130), Kentwood’s Jolene Crook-Meyers (140) and Antonia Navejas (152), Auburn Mountainview’s Lilia Gudzyuk (160), Fife’s Betty Granados (171) and Bethel’s Kendra Cremeans (heavyweight) won titles.
