The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Covering high school sports in Tacoma, Pierce County and the South Sound.

This will be the place to find up-to-date information on Mat Classic XXI, the boys swimming and diving state championships and gymnastics state championships.

We will have coverage from those three state tournaments, providing notes and stories from all the events, photo galleries and video.

If there's a result or something else you want to know, let us know in the comments section and we'll do our best to run down that information.

Here are the previews that ran in Friday's newspaper:

Wrestling -- Black Hills 160-pounder Jimmy Belleville is going for a fourth state championship. He would be the state's fifth four-time champion. Click that link to see The News Tribune's eight Untouchables.

Gymnastics -- A new all-around champion will be crowned in Class 4A.

Boys swimming -- Gig Harbor swimmer Mitchell Reed has taken up swimming again after being ranked as a youth.

I stopped by the Tacoma Dome on Thursday to talk to some wrestlers and coaches and this was the scene. Sorry about the photo quality, all I had was my cell phone on me. Good thing the TNT photographers are pros and have great gear.

This video is from last year, but it's pretty cool and worth checking out again. Plus, I imagine there's not much change in how Mat Classic gets set up each season. Enjoy this time-lapse video of the set-up of the 2008 Mat Classic.
