The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

He started. He scored. And he lost.

Avery Bradley, the ex-Bellarmine Prep star who has signed with Texas, scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, but the USA Junior National team lost to the world team, 97-89, on Saturday at the Rose Garden in front of more than 11,000 spectators for the Nike Hoop Summit.

Bradley played 29 minutes.

"Games like that – McDonald's All-American – those are all-star games. Us coming here, we're supposed to play as a team, it's kind of a team thing," Bradley said. "We are representing the (United States), and we're not playing against each other, we are playing against the world."

It was the world team's first win in the series since 1998.

Xavier Henry led all U.S. scorers with 22 points, including six 3-pointers. Milan Macvan, a center from Serbia, led all scorers with 23.

Abdul Gaddy also played, scoring three points in 13 minutes.

The next stop for Bradley is the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday in New York City, which will be televised by ESPN2.
