The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Covering high school sports in Tacoma, Pierce County and the South Sound.
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I snapped this photo with my cell phone about 30 minutes before the start of the Bellarmine Prep-Stadium boys soccer game at Stadium Bowl on Tuesday evening.

If there's a more scenic high school sports venue in the state, I'd like to see it.

Should be a great evening with two of the state's best soccer teams likely playing for the Narrows League title in this fantastic setting. I'll have a story in Wednesday's The News Tribune.

Patrick Schuster, a left-hander with a 90-mile per hour fastball, has been unhittable in his last four starts. The New Port Richey, Fla., senior has thrown four straight no-hitters for Mitchell High School. Here's an account of the most recent, which came on Monday.

Schuster, who's 8-0 with 110 strikeouts, will go for No. 5 on April 28. The national record for most consecutive no-hitters is six.

Beamer pitcher Brian Corliss hurled back-to-back no-hitters earlier this season, blanking Wilson and Bethel.
