The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Friday’s highlights

Emerald Ridge erupted for five runs in the fifth inning, breaking open a close baseball game, and beat Curtis 14-7. Bryan Burgher had three hits and Will Chavarria and Jace Dykman tallied two each for the Jaguars. Kyle Phillips hit a home run for the Vikings.

Lakes pitcher Matt Chambers threw a complete game, leading the Lancers to a 6-1 win over Sumner. Dalton Gervais went 3-for-3 with a double and home run for Lakes.

Spanaway Lake’s Josh Schultz, Terik Gofinch and Trevor Woods all had two hits in the Sentinels’ 14-1 victory against Bethel.

Kentlake clipped Federal Way 13-12 in eight innings, getting a pair of home runs from Ryan Dale and Miles Nagel. Terin Beck went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Eagles and Brandon Cinkovich was 3-for-5 with three RBI for Kentlake.

Cullen Hendrickson went 3-for-3 and scored twice in Bellarmine Prep’s 6-3 victory at Foss.

Kyle Conwell, Heyden Johnson and Chris Marangon crushed home runs for Tahoma in the Bears’ 22-8 rout of Auburn.

Orting pitcher Lindsey Withers tossed a no-hitter against Life Christian, leading the Cardinals to a 13-0 win. Withers struck out 11 in six innings.

Kelli Crawford stuck out 12 and threw a complete game for Franklin Pierce as the Cardinals eked past Washington 1-0. Alisha Misner went 3-for-4 and drove in FP’s only run.

Alisha McKnight hurled a two-hitter and Taylor Buie and Stephanie Riley provided the offense in undefeated Emerald Ridge’s 11-0 win at Curtis.

Kelsey Robinson struck out 14 and scattered three hits in Puyallup’s 4-0 win against Beamer.

SPSL South-leading Rogers maintained its position in the standings with a 4-3 win over Curtis. Paulo Mandieta scored twice for the Rams.

Cory Mclellan scored a pair of goals for Emerald Ridge, leading the Jaguars over Puyallup 2-1.
