The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Monday’s highlights

Gig Harbor routed Shelton 11-1 in a Narrows League tiebreaker to secure the Bridge Division’s No. 2 seed to the league tournament. Scott Schultz threw a complete-game one hitter and also hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. David Bigelow added a home run for the Tides. Shelton will play Stadium in the first round Thursday and Gig Harbor will meet the winner of the Wilson-Bellarmine Prep contest in the second round on Friday.

Doug Christie tossed a complete game three-hitter, pitching Kentlake to an 8-0 win against Auburn Riverside. Christie struck out 12, walked one and went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Rogers pitcher Justin Erhardt shut out Bethel 7-0, scattering four hits over seven innings.

Federal Way’s T.J. Horsefall hit a home run and tallied five RBI, powering the Eagles past Kentridge 6-5. The Chargers’ Cody Hamada was 3-for-4.

Jesse James struck out 13 and Jacob Hoffman hit a home run in Curtis’ 6-4 victory at Graham-Kapowsin.

Cody Mackenzie struck out six in four innings and Cam Booser hit a home run in Fife’s 9-5 win over Washington.

Steilacoom’s Jesse Newhouse went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI in the Sentinel’s 7-1 victory against Eatonville.

Alexis White-Watters struck out 10, allowed two hits and went 3-for-4 in Foss’ 10-0 win over Shelton.

Kjersti Johnson tossed a one-hitter, leading Gig Harbor to an 11-1 victory at Lincoln. Mickelle Oslin hit a home run and drove in four RBI.

Beth Kassuhn improved to 10-0, pitching Steilacoom past Eatonville 8-1
