The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Carr, a midfielder who has signed to play at the University of Maryland, leads Washington in points with 59 – 35 goals and 24 assists. He is just one of four lacrosse players west of the Mississippi River to earn All-American honors.

Carr will compete in the All-American game June 27 at Towson Stadium in Baltimore. The game will be televised live at 5 p.m. on ESPNU.

What to watch today

The Narrows League baseball playoffs begins today with a pair of loser-out games. Stadium visits Shelton and Bellarmine Prep hosts Wilson. Both games begin at 4 p.m. The Lions enter the postseason on a four-game winning streak, including a 12-3 victory over the Rams on May 1. The Highclimbers routed the Tigers 11-1 earlier this season.

Wednesday’s highlights

Tyler Arrington scored the contest’s only goal, lifting Gig Harbor to a 1-0 win over Olympia in the Narrows League playoffs. Goalkeeper Korey Durkee recorded the shutout. The Tides will face Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tahoma, while the Bears will meet Shelton in a loser-out game at 9:30 a.m.

Enumclaw’s Jordan Savage scored a hat trick, leading the Hornets to a 6-0 victory against Lakes. Pierce Beigh and Jeremy McCarthy combined for the shutout.

Kayla Stueckle won three events – the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the long jump – helping Emerald Ridge top Spanaway Lake 88-44. Stueckle is the state leader in the two hurdles events. Spanaway Lake’s Keyana Bell claimed victory in the 100 and 200.

Yelm’s boys swept the relays and Jesse Elvrom won the 1,600 and 3,200 as the Tornados beat Capital 81-64. Joseph Ingam won the long jump and triple jump for the Cougars.
