The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

I've been able to piece together most of the first-round matchups of the Class 4A baseball state playoffs. I'll update this as I get more information, such as game times.

All games Saturday, May 23

At Everett Stadium
Game 1: Newport vs. Kentwood(loser out)
Game 2: Olympia vs. Snohomish (loser out)
Game 3: G1 winner vs. G2 winner (loser out)

At Richland
Game 4: District 5/6/8 No. 3 vs. District 5/6/8 No. 2 (loser out)
Game 5: Kamiak vs. Richland (loser out)
Game 6: G4 winner vs. G5 winner (loser out)

At Kent Memorial Park
Game 7: Inglemoor vs. Puyallup (loser out)
Game 8: Central Kitsap vs. Lake Washington (loser out)
Game 9: G7 winner vs. G8 winner (loser out)

At Heidelberg Park

The first-round matchups for the boys soccer state playoffs are available. Here they are:

Class 4A
Rogers at Issaquah, 7 p.m.
Gig Harbor vs. Marysville-Pilchuck, 7 p.m. at Lake Stevens
South Kitsap vs. Roosevelt, 6:30 p.m. at Seattle Memorial Stadium
Snohomish at Central Kitsap, 7:30 p.m. at Silverdale Stadium
Skyview vs. Stadium, 7 p.m. at Mount Tahoma
Bellarmine Prep at Woodinville, 7 p.m.
Kamiak at Mead, 5 p.m. at Joe Albi Stadium
Lewis & Clark at Pasco, 6 p.m.

The bracket is awfully heavy with Narrows League teams, isn't it? All five Narrows League teams won their matches in the West Central District playoffs on Saturday. If Stadium and Bellarmine Prep each win their first-round games, the two teams will meet in the quarterfinals.
