The Prep Blog
The preps blog is designed to fill in the gaps of our high school sports coverage, providing insight into some of the stories and projects we are pursuing, and to serve as a forum to talk about some of the significant high school sports stories happening in our community.

Doug Pacey joined The News Tribune in 2007 after covering prep sports at The Bellingham Herald for five years. He graduated from Issaquah High School in 1998 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 2002. E-mail Doug.

Covering high school sports in Tacoma, Pierce County and the South Sound.
Thursday, May 28th, 2009

We've safely made it through Day 1 of Star Track XXVII at Mount Tahoma. About a quarter of the events were held on Thursday, with finals in the 3200 for all three classifications and seven field events.

You can find the results of the finals and the top-eight qualifiers in each of the prelims -- boys 110-meter hurdles, girls 100-meter hurdles, girls 4x200-meter relay and boys and girls 4x400-meter relays -- at our scoreboard right here.

The weather sure did cooperate on Thursday, and more clear skies and sunshine is expected for Friday and Saturday. Judging from the crowd that was at Mount Tahoma on Thursday, you're going to have to arrive at Mount Tahoma earliy if you want a seat in the stands. People were sitting in the aisles on Thursday, and that was during a session with only a handful of events.

Parking is available in the Mount Tahoma parking lot and also on the field south of the school's tennis courts.

Star Track XXVII begins this afternoon at Mount Tahoma and we've got every angle covered. We'll be posting updates and some video throughout the three-day, three-classification event.

Here's a story on the state track and field meet coming back to Tacoma.

Here are our detailed state track and field meet capsules.

Here are the Top 5 Tacoma Star Track moments. This is a nice, memorable read from TNT sports reporter Todd Milles.

Here's a link to Athletic.net, which lists the top times and marks of every runner, jumper and thrower in the state.

You can find our photographers' fantastic photo galleries of Star Track here. Galleries from the previous days' competition should appear here by morning the next day.
