Boys aren't the only ones getting into fights on ball fields.

The Denver Post reported that the Cheyenne Mountain and Wasson High School girls softball teams were involved in a 30-person brawl on Monday night. According to the article, "a woman who was at the game is suspected of third-degree assault...and two juvenile girls are being investigated for fighting."

The fight happened in the parking lot after the game. I'd guess that parents were involved, too. I don't care what happened on the field to spur the fight, there is never an excuse to arm yourself with a bat, like the article says happened.

The University of Washington won the softball national championship on Tuesday evening, beating Florida 3-2 and taking the series 2-0.

Helping the Huskies win the title were six players that call the South Sound home. Centralia's Dani Stuart, Timberline's Taylor Smith, Yelm's Alicia Blake, Auburn's Bailey Stenson, Lakes' Alyson McWherter and Kentlake's Felecia Harris are on the roster.

Blake was Washington's starting catcher and McWherter, The News Tribune's Player of the Year in 2006, started about half the games in centerfield.

The South Sound-to-Washington pipeline remains loaded. Auburn Riverside's Amanda Fitzsimmons, The News Tribune's Player of the Year this season, has committed to the Huskies and Steilacoom's Marki Creger-Zier has given a verbal commitment.
