The developer of the billion-dollar Point Ruston project, on the site of the former Asarco copper smelter, has started marketing view homes at “Stack Hill,” site of the smelter’s old emissions stack.

The Ruston Town Council approved the final plat for Stack Hill on Oct. 20, freeing developer Mike Cohen to start writing purchase and sale agreements.

Stack Hill reclaims the property where the 562-foot Asarco smelter stack once stood. The structure was demolished in 1993 and the land has since been remediated under EPA supervision. The EPA released Stack Hill for construction in 2007.

Cohen’s plans for Stack Hill include 36 single-family homes. Twelve of the home sites already have been reserved, Cohen says. All 36 homes will be both Built Green and Energy Star certified through the Master Builders Association of Pierce County.

The first model home opened in September and has drawn an average of 20 to 30 visitors per day during open house weekends, Cohen said. A permanent sales office will
be located in a second model home, which is expected to be complete and fully furnished in November.

To learn more about homes at Stack Hill, visit www.PointRuston.com or contact Julie McBride at (360) 456-6307,

Beautiful website, music, and homes. But, the timing couldn't have been worse. I wish them luck!

Good luck in a crappy market. MC is a responsible developer/builder - look at the recently completed Nisqually Bluff (some 60 homes just over the county line) as an example.

Can somebody post neighborhood-by-neighborhood residential price changes on a monthly basis like Devona Wells used to do? Thanks for considering.

Wow - from an informational blog to free ads.

Too cheap to BUY an ad like others?

How does one sign up to use this for free advertising?

Its a shame isn't it, unbiased reporter. I have been trying for 2 years to get 1 article informing people on how to buy and sell real estate in 2007 forward and be smart about it. Just 1 article about 500 Realty, Handspring, Shop Prop, or Red Fin. Meanwhile we still send our Agents to Fort Lewis to educate our soldiers because Lord Knows the News Tribune wont. The public needs this education and $$$$ now more then ever.

We finally gave up on The News Tribune. We moved to Federal Way edging our way into Seattle. The Seattle Times has long since been progressive with Red Fin but with Red Fin now increasing their charges to the consumer and lowering their rebates we remain the #1 VALUE in the NATION for anyone Buying/Selling.

When our own local newspaper will not even educate the masses its time to move North. Yet, I still get calls/emails to advertise with the News Tribune. Always wanting our money yet not even educating people we were here. As I told the last solicitor form the News Tribune. Write an article about all the New Brokerages that are being established to assist the consumer in buying and selling financially the correct way, then YOU will get a portion of our Comcast advertising budget.

Until then the News Tribune gets the same amount they are providing to the public about real estate education.............SQUAT!

It looks like you brokers have too much time on your hands. Mr. Pepper why don't you buy advertising like the rest of the brokers.

Furthermore I'm part of the community and I want to know what is going on out on Ruston. Thank you Rob for informing me!!

Buy advertising in the News Tribune? You must be joking. Comcast my friend....
govwatcher @ 23:12 - Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 Email

Has anyone else noticed the incredible lack of Tribune coverage of local real estate news?

It's appalling.

Bring back Devona Wells!!!! She was great!

Or, find someone else to report on the local real estate market. There's plenty of RE news out there for at least 2 or 3 local reports per week.

Maybe the Tribune prefers to keep the spotlight off the local market for fear of informing their readers how bad it really is out there.

How about it Editor? How about some better coverage of the local RE market.

govwatcher. you can find all the info you need at www.seattlebubble.com ....No spin just the facts supported by all the graphs you can digest.
Mike_T @ 12:01 - Friday, November 14th, 2008 Email
Govwatcher- the Tribune has laid off much of their staff. Look at the bylines on most of the articles, they aren't written by local folks... They're not trying to hide anything beyond their own dire financial issues.
GiovannaVB @ 21:53 - Sunday, November 16th, 2008 Email
I don't think the Tribune has any problem telling it like it is when it comes to the real estate market. Did you notice the giant front page story on home foreclosures?

What I appreciated was that it was not posted to this blog! Like real journalism!

The TNT has a real credibility issue with this blog. They should close it down rather than posting Once a Month!!

I've always heard that the rule of thumb with blogging is to be consistant. If they're going to post once a month or once a week, that's fine. As long as readers know how often to check in. :)
