First-year NFL referee Jerome Boger is the lead official assigned to the Seahawks-Bucs game Sunday, according to the official flip card found here. Boger has never worked a Seattle game. Boger was off last week. His crew has assessed 13.3 penalties per game (11.9 is league average). His instant-replay numbers are very much in line with league averages. And he is the only NFL official whose crews have assessed the same number of penalties against home and road teams. Not much controversial about his rulings, it appears.

No Bill Leavy all season? That's disappointing.
Maybe they're saving him for the 2007 game in Pittsburgh.

The NFL is probably saving him for when Seattle gets into the
Super-Bowl this season.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!

bartholder22 @ 15:02 - Saturday, December 30th, 2006
Booger is a cross between Bubba and Forrest when it comes to his voice

For those who wonder why Leavy hasn't received a Seattle assignment this season, look up Ben Dreith and the 1976 New England Patriots. There are circumstances under which the league will prevent an official from calling a particular team's games - I'm assuming that's in the interest of the official's safety.

I wondered...
Makes sense, though. Have any other members of the "All-Star" officiating crew from Super Fraud XL come to Qwest this year?

Jerome Boger's crew has the third-most number of total enforced penalties per game out of the 17 NFL crews this season. The way his crew has moved to the top of the list is because of a higher-than-average number of penalties against home teams -- 6.6 per game, which is second-most among referee crews.

Home teams have only won 50% of games that Jerome Boger has covered so far this season (the NFL average is around 54%), so that could be a good sign for Seattle as the visiting team. Generally speaking, though, referees that call a large number of penalties trend to a higher win-rate for home teams.
