We'll make available two recent interviews, one from KIRO radio late last week, another from footballguys.com this afternoon. Thanks to KIRO for passing along the audio. Thanks to footballguys.com for sending a link to their podcast.

We noted at the May camp that DT Marcus Tubbs is looking slimmer these days. Tubbs has yet to practice after undergoing microfracture knee surgery, but the team expects him back for training camp.

Tubbs is down into the 325-pound range, coach Mike Holmgren said. The Seahawks have listed Tubbs in that range, but his actual weight has been higher (recalling the days when Seattle listed Sam Adams at 285 pounds in the media guide).

Coach Mike Holmgren said the Seahawks released CB Kelly Herndon in part because the veteran defensive back wasn't excited about being a backup. Holmgren said he had a positive conversation with Herndon this morning. The Seahawks saved $1.06 million in cap room by releasing Herndon on Friday.

Said Holmgren: "He sees himself as a starter and two corners start, even though the third corner plays a lot. He was never a problem or anything. We want guys that are really enthusiastic and are really happy about their situation as best we can. We did what we did."

Former Raiders pro personnel scout Ed Dodds has joined the Seahawks in a similar capacity. Seattle had an opening after Lake Dawson left to join the Titans. Dodds had worked with Mike Lombardi in Oakland's front office.

WR Deion Branch missed practice today while on his honeymoon. Coach Mike Holmgren laughed at the timing, noting that players always seem to schedule these things during minicamps. "The awards banquets, the graduations ... reminds me of Klinger in M*A*S*H," Holmgren said.

The expectation is that Branch will join this voluntary camp in progress. "He's on his honeymoon and might not be worth much tomorrow," Holmgren quipped. "He's coming in, though. He'll be here."

Matt Hasselbeck was vulnerable to a blindside shot during his post-practice interview Monday. He wasn't wearing the red non-contact jersey worn by quarterbacks during practice. All-Pro left tackle Walter Jones wasn't there to protect his blind side. And so I just couldn't resist asking him about the recent televised steel-cage match between his sister-in-law, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Rosie O'Donnell. If you haven't seen the video, suffice to say that things got a little heated between the former TV teammates.

Matt Hasselbeck is generally pretty quick with his retorts, but he was close to speechless on this subject. "Strong show," he said when asked about The View in general. "It's been on for 10 years. I think they're looking forward to many more years on the air." We'll take that as a no comment.

Starting C Chris Spencer was back at practice today after missing May minicamps amid concerns about a surgically repaired shoulder. Spencer participated in most individual drills, but not the more demanding team sessions. I did not see him work in the pass-rush drills. The starting line, left to right, consisted of Walter Jones, Rob Sims, Spencer, Ray Willis and Sean Locklear. The second line consisted of Floyd Womack, Austin King, Pat Ross, Mansfield Wrotto and Tom Ashworth. RG Chris Gray was not at practice. He'll rejoin the team after helping his family with a move. This is a voluntary camp and Gray probably doesn't need the work as much as others after nine seasons with the team.

On the defensive side, Patrick Kerney watched practice. He's still rehabbing from a pectoral injury, but the team expects him to be ready for training camp, and he could get some work in this minicamp. They're being careful with him.

The Seahawks have finished their first practice of a two-week voluntary minicamp. QB Matt Hasselbeck participated without limitation. His surgically repaired non-throwing shoulder is a "non-issue on the field" even though his timing isn't all the way back, Hasselbeck said. The Seahawks practiced on grass through a persistent drizzle, hardly ideal conditions for throwing and catching. Coach Mike Holmgren said he's pleased with Hasselbeck's progress even though the quarterback isn't quite as consistent as he'll be with additional work.
